That's pretty harsh.  My wife got to keep her company TSX whilst on mat leave, twice.  Can you imagine if you were a single parent and your employer took away your only form of transport, nightmare...  :nono:

My daughter was born in July, and because teachers are technically only employed for Sept-June, she lost all her mat benefits as she was not employed by the board at the time.

So she got EI, but no top-up, which was a LOT of money lost.

Then, to make it worse, they used to claw back EI benefits if you earned a certain amount in the period after your mat leave, and so we not only received no pay or benefits from the board, but ended up paying back all the EI.

As much as I am generally not in favour of unions this seesm a case where the Union(s) should tell the provincial gov   365 day employment or there will be no school year next year.  That is employment just like any other civil servant.

I suppose the gov would then try to reduce the monthly salary cheque to keep the overall salary the same and some teachers would have a problem with that.
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

Oh well.  Having a company vehicle is a perk very few people get.  It's like me saying "Can you imagine not having all the perks the union people get"?

I used to have company cars...but didn't :censor: and moan when I switched to a job that didn't offer them.

I agree, and I've never had a job with one either.  But when you come to rely on it as part of your salary it shouldn't be taken away just when you need it most.

OHHHH!!!  That spider!!!  LOL.  I looked at a Beck 550 Spyder so I thought you meant that kind of spider...LOL.  I was wondering how you "knew" since I kept it on the down low.  LOL

No..the tarantula hasn't come yet.  Still debating between the spider, a Horned Toad or a Corn Snake.

Yea, I used to breed them.  Used to throw my mating pairs in the fridge to induce them to mate.  People freaked out when they found out I had boxes of snakes in my fridge...LOL

You guys need to come the the pharma dark side...  ;D

My wife has been a pharma rep for 12 years, 10 with her current employer.  She got to keep her company car during her first mat leave but due to new policies they no longer let women keep the cars.  How is that for rewarding 10 years of loyal performance?  She has won President's Club about 7 out of 10 years but hey, they want to save a few grand on a lease.  I am trying to convince her to be a stay at home mom for a few years after this baby comes but she loves what she does... :o

Do they let men on paternity leave keep their cars?   Assuming that men can have pat leave in your province.

They're probably not saving anything as the company still has to pay for the lease like it or not.

They will give the van to the contract Rep hired to replace her in her territory for 12 months so they save paying a car allowance to that person for the year.

Well, you have no one to blame but yourself.  ;)  With better planning, you could have had the teacher go on mat leave right at the Christmas break.  At least that's the hope for me... of course, 'junior' looks like he might make his appearance before the missus is done school so we might be out a couple of weeks' of my wife's pay too.   :o

Giving up a company car?!  Ha!  I'm just happy that we'll save mileage and fuel costs by her not doing the 1:15 hr commute each way for the year!
