New Tires for the Mazda 3 GT
« on: April 05, 2016, 04:21:34 pm »
Ordered a set of Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season tires in the 205/50R17 size.

Good reviews on Tire Rack and Consumer Reports.  I'm looking for a quieter tire and these should fit the bill.

I hope it's not too late to cancel my Pirelli order.  I forgot to check the Hercules website!

Yeah...the soft looking roly poly 'Michelin X' tyres with inner tubes were another option. They looked like they would roll off the rim but somehow did not. Hardly any tread but worked well in the snow.

I got a second hand set of those for my Mk 1 Sprite   ( came from a thoroughly totalled Renault 4... 10 pounds the lot including the rims.)  Yes they did work in the one snowstorm that happened in the UK that year but they were death in rain on a concrete road surface!

It'll be interesting to hear your impressions, especially after wear-in the first 500km. Many blame these for the subpar braking distances on modern cars (z.B BMW in North America). But it's OE fitment on a lot of cars and not all of them seem to complain, so do let us know.

I have a set in the 225/45/18 size on my BMW 320i XDrive.  They are quiet, have excellent turn-in and ride very well despite my fitment being the run-flat version.  They are also very predictable in the rain and hook up very nicely when the car is thrown around.   A very good 3-season tire IMHO and surprisingly good given my admitted Michelin fanboy-ism.

I had a set on my MG Midget when I was 17, the steel belts poking through the tread gave extra winter traction.  ;D

Put a set 2 summers ago on my 2005 Mazda 3 and have been very happy with them. Quiet, good handling and wear seems fine so far. Provide a bit of a smoother ride.

Very pleased. I am sure you will be as well.

This is a tire thread with one thing missing, Hercules Tires G5000Z (215/40ZR17).

The appropriate inflation for a smooth, no-bump ride, has yet to be determined.  ;D
