We don't price the cars on the lot, but the prices are on the Internet.

The whole point is to make you have interaction with a sales-rep.

May of 2008 my General Manager mandated I put price hangers in every car.  Let it be known the guy in general is an idiot, but he was the boss, so in the windows they went.

Sales dropped 25%.  Not an anomaly, as I track results very well month to month and vs previous years.

June I yanked the signs out, and lo and be hold, volume returned.

It's not a bait and switch or sucker move.  Although it does come in handy for the occasional dim-wit who is adamant his 6 year old Civic is still worth 10% more than MSRP on a new one. ;)

I think it's more common than the dealers realize.  I've always ignored those who do not list prices.

It depends on what your trying to sell.  We have two lots.  The used LATE model Toyotas get full price details: monthly payment, protector this and protector that.  Could sell twice as many but supply is just not there.

However there is no shortage of the others domestics and they go to the other lot and are sold the traditional used car way: sub prime loans, by-weekly payments, a few sit out on the highway with big numbers scrolled on the windshield, but most are unmarked waiting for their next victim. This method works the best when you got used sh*t to sell.  A good sales person has a good chance of selling anything if they have an opportunity to engage the buyer for X amount of time.  Now winter is coming and it's sucks.

I find that surprising. I wonder if the 25% increase was b/c of heavy sales tactics and made the people buy the car.

The vast, vast, vast,  majority of used dealer car sales is pure DARWINISM.  Once the monthly payment plan is the only payment option (under capitalized buyers) the culling begins.   :P

Me too! I just take my "custom" elsewhere. I bought my used HHR from a dealer. Got to give them props. Every car is clearly labelled with a price and to their credit they did everything to the HHR they said they would do to address the issues it had and then did several other things they did not need to. They also did a bang up job detailing it to boot!

Would I buy another car from them? Absolutely! Will I tell others about my experience? You had better believe it!

Will gladly share this place for anyone looking to buy a used car in Guelph. :)
