Hi everybody,

I moved up here from the states about 8 or 9 months ago and my wife and I brought our 2 cars along with us.  Over the last 6 or so months I've found that I really don't need my car since I take the bus to work and would love to sell it to get rid of a car payment and insurance payment.

But my wife remembers hearing something about how we can't sell any cars that we brought with us while we are up here on a work permit... Does anybody know if this is true or not?  If so is there a time limit on it, as in if I am here over a year I can sell my car?

I would think that the buyer of your car would have to treat the whole transaction as if they were importing a car from the US, so they'd have to make sure it was on the approved list, have the inspections and modifications done, make sure all recalls were up to date, etc etc, (see RIV.ca for details).

You might likely have to go back to the US to have the paperwork done properly.
