Hi All - have a 2007 Tahoe with 22" front wipers. OEM wipers are wearing out and considering the time of year, was wondering whether I should get a "winter wiper" if such a product exists.

Have read that wiper performance suffers at longer lengths. On my previous Tahoe ('99) I installed the CDN Tire Reflex wipers and was not particularly impressed.

In your opinion, what is the best aftermarket wiper (winter or all-season) in SUV lengths?

Thanks.

I thought the OE wiper blades on our '07 Suburban were outstanding, both in summer and winter. I haven't priced them out, but unless they're outrageously expensive, why not just get another set from the dealer?

Having said that, last winter I replaced our OE wiper blades with the CT Reflex. I think they work pretty well, although they don't seem to be lasting as long as the OE ones.

I hate the old-style winter blades with the bulky rubber covering. They're great around town, but useless at highway speeds (the extra wind resistance lifts the blade clean off the windshield).

Why not get OEM wiper inserts??? Or are they not available, and you must replace the whole arm?

The OE Suburban/Tahoe wiper blade is a one-piece, frameless design (like the Reflex). I didn't think you could get replacement inserts for those, but after a bit of searching it looks like you can make something fit: http://chevroletforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7653 .

They're apparently not from GM, though, and it takes a bit of slicing and dicing to get them to fit. Might be worth trying.

I've had a couple of vehicles that required the longer lengths and was never particularly impressed with winter blades.  They look clunky and lift easily at speed, somewhat negating some of their purported advantages.  I'd rather take the time to clean off a good metal frame wiper and enjoy its better cleaning properties.  I look for blades that have an extra link out towards the end as they articulate better around the curve of the windshield.  I've had good experience with Bosch blades and avoid Trico and Tridon like the plague.

I've never had that problem, and the softer compound improves their performance in the cold, or so it seems to me.

 I Agree

Ditto.  In fact, the blades that gave me the most problem were the "reflex" style blades.  The longer lengths used for the driver's side tended to chatter and lift at any speed beyond residential speed limits.  In comparison, the rubber sheath on the old fashioned winter blades keeps the springs from freezing over, allowing the blades to flex as they should.

The only winter blades that did not work right were the replacements for my rear window.  I never could get the same cleaning arc with those when compared to the OEM blade.  As a result, I have winter blades up front and the OEM blade in the rear.

The Viewmax frameless wiper blades from walmart worked pretty good on my pathy, though it only has 19inch blades on each arm. I use the Canadian tire Teflon metal framed ones in the summer.

Costco has frameless wipers at very good prices. Much cheaper that CT or Wallmart. Lots of sizes available I been using them and been very happy with performance. From time to time they have a $3.00 off coupon and you are allowed to buy as many as you want. I stock up on them when on sale.

I installed a set of NAPA NeoForm beam blades (that's what they call them   Undecided ) and they were awesome in the snow and slush on a 6 hour drive to Prince George last week.  I hope they stay good as the winter progresses and when its colder.  Time will tell.

They are much better than their old style of hingeless blades, that's for sure.
