Spare Tire Replacement
« on: September 28, 2009, 11:12:15 am »
My friend blew her tire on her 2009 Rav4 (<10,000 kms), and is using her full size spare at the moment.

Now she needs a replacement spare tire. Should she buy the same tire she has on her car now, or could she buy something else? They're Toyo Open Country A20's, about $250 each installed.

Tough decision...I think she could save some $$ if she didn't have to buy the Toyo's, but what if she needs a spare again? Mixed tires isn't good...

Mine: 2004 Acura TSX
Family: 2005 Honda Odyssey EX, 2006 BMW 330i

buy the toyo if you plan on including the 5th tire in rotations or buy an el cheapo and use it as a temporary spare only.  to save even more $$ you can sell the 5th rim (if it is alloy) and mount the temporaty spare to a steelie.

or the new spare tire+rim could be the first of a dedicated winter wheelset.
