Sorry about your dog... that's part of the pet experience though. I know people who like dogs but won't get one cuz they don't last and it hurts to loose them.

Just wondering here... if not planning to keep it longer then 4 years then what's the point of the winter beater? I kind of get the M3, is a nice toy and the timing for your purchase was right to get the best price, etc, etc...

But, please help me understand your logic to get a beater. Is it a problem to drive the M3 in the winter with all its electronic nannies and winter tires? I'd think it should be OK. Unless of course you're saving it for the next owner....

Finally, it must suck to go from a new bmw 5 to an old honda for your daily commute. If I were you, I'd probably ditch the beater... actually, I would not have gotten it in the first place.

Thanks to all of you for your kind words regarding Drake. I know many of you have experienced the same so know the hurt it causes. Appreciate your kindness.

My condolences too Ovr, never fun having to put down any pet, but at least we can end their suffering.

I knew someone would ask that question and it is logical.

I won't drive the Honda until the weather is bad, so I drive the M3 for a while yet, winter often doesn't come until late Nov or early Dec. I didn't totally need the Honda, but for what I paid for it, I save on wear and tear on the BMW (and hopefully, better trade-in value). Besides, I will be able to resell the Honda in April for just about what I paid. We already have friends who want it for their daughter who turns 16 in April, when my plates on the Honda expire.

No, didn't need the Honda, but I have the luxury of being able to do it for little net cost, and I am fussy about my good cars, and hate to see them totally messed with winter. Hey, indulge an old guy a bit..... Wink Grin

OK, I guess it makes a little bit of sense... I'd be fussy about that car too... Smiley

Still, I think my personal preference would have been to drive the car with the extra safety equipment on those iffy days.... but then I don't own an M3 and if I did I might be signing a different tune... Wink

Oh, and I guess I forgot this before... congrats on the M3... very nice car indeed! Enjoy!

Wow, sad and happy at the same time. My condolences Ovr. I will admit that I'm one of those people that don't have any pets for that reason but otherwise love them.

Now the car!!!! Very hot!  Glad to hear good things about the DCT and I really like my version of it. Enjoy.

How is it possible that after electricity has traveled through hundreds of miles of power line then hundreds of feet (or yards) of romex in our home, that changing the last three feet of wire with something exotic, expensive (cool looking, and packaged in a pricey box) is going to make a difference?

Sorry to hear about Drake.  We had to put down one of our shelties last year and I know how you feel right now.  Believe me though, it does get better and while you'll still miss him you'll remember the good times and try not to dwell on the bad.   Dogs are the best.

BTW, great car, and I agree with you keeping out of the snow.

Losing a dog is such a hard thing.  I hope you get over it quickly.  Time *does* heal all wounds.  You were one of the first persons to support me when we lost our lovable pooch, Chevy, back in February and I remember how much of a comfort it was...even though we're all essentially strangers.

I've felt your pain but I've overcome it with time.

I'm sure many of you already know that Edmunds has a 2009 M3 as a long term tester.
http://blogs.edmunds.com/roadtests/Vehicles/2009-bmw-m3/

They did a dyno run with is and posted some video on youtube. Check it out:

That is one sweet ride!  A business associate had an 06 M3 that I rode in and it was lightning quick.  Unfortunately for him he took it to the Square One Mall in Mississauga one sunny Sunday, and came out 45 minutes later and it was gone.  The car was never recovered and was probably shipped overseas.

He got over his grief and picked up a new 911 turbo and doesn't take it to the mall any more!

Very sorry about your companion.
