Hey guys, the downpipe in 2004 subaru WRX has just recently sprung a hole. Giving my WRX more of a beater sound than i feel comfortable with, anyway. I wanna repalce it with an after market downpipe to give my car a little more juice, and a bigger rumble. So I was just wondering if any of you had any suggestions for a particular downpipe, and/or where I could find one, close to the ottawa area is at all possible, or any web sites would work as well. I don't want to get crazy here, but I would like a decent enough downpipe so that I can hear and feel the difference from the stock one. I have seen them on e-bay for 2-300$ and am wondering what you guys think about that and if I need anything else other than the downpipe in order to make the switch work. Thanks in advance for any advice you may give me.

You CAN get them cheap, but some of them are cheap knock offs made with poor materials.  They have the possibility of wearing out after a few heat cycles..Other times the fitment is not outstanding which is a HUGE pain.  While not all knock offs are bad, just be a bit weary...

Otherwise it's best to stick with a WRX specialist part...Perrin, Cobb, ProDrive.  Also, surf on over to http://forums.nasioc.com/ and see if they have any used stuff there.  You might luck out and get something for a great price...

Thanks for the advice, Was VERY helpful, I have one more question, alot of the downpipes i have been looking at say that they are for offroad use only because of emissions, however they have all been american sites. I was just wondering if any of you knew if that was USA law only or are these downpipes illegal in both canada and the states, and is it uncommon for people to put illegal downpipes in their cars? In my mind it can't be that huge of a difference that a cop would see/hear me and pull me over because my car sounds too loud due to my dp. But thats just my logic. Thanks for any replies i get.

When they say "off road only", that generally because the downpipe/up-pipe have no catalytic converters on them and therefore don't pass emissions...in the US or Canada.  There are a few companies who make smog legal pipes...as I said, COBB, Perrin etc..
