The discounts are similar to what has been available for the past year. Dealer inventories are getting very slim at this point, except for Astra. I really don't see a big risk in buying one with service & parts being available at other GM dealers in Canada and warranties honoured.

Unknowing at the time, my cousin bought an '09MY Astra 5dr (dunno if XE or XR) manual & sunroof in Twilight Blue this week. She called us Astra Twins  :rofl2:

If read the small print this deal only applies to GM and Saturn owners.

The Saturn site on gm.ca is showing a cash price of $9.990 for the XE 5-door, using a $7000 delivery allowance and a $1000 GM loyalty credit.

I might be a bit nervous though. All Saturn dealers are closing as of Dec. 31st and the Astra is based on an Opel design which will no longer be part of GM after the Opel sale. Parts will become a problem pretty quickly. Heck, my former 2002 Intrigue was beginning to run into no-longer-available parts issues earlier this year after 7 model years, and that is a GM N.A. car.

At that price you can afford to fly to Europe, relax for a week or two and come back with the parts.

I think I'd be awfully tempted by an almost new one with a 1000km or so on it (demo?) for 8K or less and full warranty. $9999 new prices are going to beat the crap out of resale values.

Not necessarily. The used G8s I'm seeing on the market now are MORE expensive than they were new a few months ago before the bankruptcy.
