You know, Greg, the next time I am flogging my Accord to it's 7100 RPM redline on highway three coming out of Oosoyoos, I will have to bang my hand to my head and exclaim, "Ugh, I could have had a Buick!"

As well you should. Seems a shame you have to turn that motor to 7 grand to make it work. And I sure hope you don't lose one of those plastic wheelcovers on those twisties. With all that engine noise you probably would hear it coming off and crashing onto the ditch. Just hope it doesn't scratch my Buick as I cruise along in peace and quiet in the other direction.

But you know, nothing could really compare with the the sky blue mouse fur interior of the last Allure I rented.

Oh, I'm sure the Uglycloth (TM Regd.) used by Honda will give it a run for its money. But wait! Allures never came with blue interiors. Why, HO, are you making things up again? Tsk, tsk. Shame on you. You have been told time and time again not to do that any more. Do we have to get your wings clipped again?

Greg, my Accord has alloys. Use your inhaler, ok?

That is cool, Greg. I bet you love cruising to the senior's bingo. We live in different ends of the country, Greg and what is suitable here is not always suitable there and vice versa. Besides, you might have to get into one of them new fangled airplane thingies to get here. I am not sure if I trust them yet.

My Accord's leather could never compare to the mouse fur of your Allure, Greg.

Honestly, I don't remember. It was a rental a few years back. Was it grey? It was definitely mouse fur and darned nice mouse fur that that. I kind of liked that car. It reminded me a lot of my daddy's 1979 Impala the way it floated down the interstate. I do remember it didn't have ABS.

Oh, so you bought the $40,000 Accord? Lovely, I'm sure. Of course my Allure has alloys and leather too, along with dual-zone auto A/C, heated seats, etc., but cost considerably less. Good thing the seats are so comfy, otherwise I might have a sore back from all that extra cash in my wallet.  :P

It would appear the answer to that is a resounding yes.

Well, it wasn't that much. It seems like I have the only EX in captivity with a manual transmission.
I am glad you are happy with your Buick. It seems to be giving you good service and it appears to be the right vehicle for you.

I've had several of these as rentals for as short as 2 days to as long as 3 weeks. Grandpa car descibes them to a T. The quality was not bad. The reilability might be average to even good (I can't tell from such short rentals). WHat I can say is that the thought of owning one chills my blood. Soft, dated, boring as heck and the looks ..uhhg I'd hate to see one in my driveway everyd day. It doesn't mean its the worst car in the world but it says something to me when my reaction to getting one as a rental is OH NO NOT AGAIN.

Yep - that about sums it up.

Is your GTI in the shop so much that you need rentals all the time?

I cannot imagine a GTI owner liking this type of car. I used to own a GTI back when I wanted that style of driving experience. But not everyone does. This is a good vehicle, certainly superior to the 4-banger plastic-wheelcover Camcords you see everywhere. But in todays New World Order, such transportation boxes are considered the ne plus ultra of automotive design while a quiet, comfortable car such as this is considered dated and soft. Go figure...  ::)

Now THAT is the funniest thing I have had the pleasure to read in a very long time.    Really, you should get a standup gig - don't give away stuff that rich for free!

Well, if everyone in the world were just like you, Greg, it would be a perfect place. And everybody would have a Buick.

Greg B, do you plan on test driving the new 2010MY Allure? I'd be interested in a comparison from a current owners point of view if the car is still quiet/cushy/comfy enough for your style to consider a new one.

Thanks... it was getting quite tiring dealing with the usual HO anti-GM trolling and Jaeger's mindless meanderings...  ::)

I have been looking for a 2010 for the last couple of weeks. The GM site shows local dealers having inventory but I have seen none on their lots so far. I hope I can get a chance to drive one. I would have loved to get one this time around but at $40K that was out of my price range -- if I was going to spend that kind of coin I would go for a CTS. The deal on the 2009 was too good to pass up and it is a really nice car, one I enjoy more every day. I imagine the new one will be quite different, so it will be interesting to see just how different and if it seems worth the extra money.

I'd wager you will see significant discounts on the new Allure in a year's time, or thereabouts, if past GM pricing stratagems are any guide.

I guess that's the next logical step in the troll handbook... dismissiveness, then misstatement, followed by distortion, followed by fabrication, and finally speculation.

Holy glass houses Batman!  :o

HO has it wroing - clearly buyers will be lining up to pay a premium over list on all Allures for years to come.  Yep - that seems far more likely.

Sure.
And then likely followed by some smart ass put down.
You know these guys can't let a positive comment on any GM vehicle remain unchallenged.

You know, when I first read sirAQUA's reply, I wasn't sure if it wasn't some type of insult... I mean, he seem to imply that you like quiest/cushy/comfy vehicles... as in, boring/coma-inducing/old-farts vehicles!  ;)
