E-Brake light
« on: August 24, 2009, 12:59:36 am »
When I push my brakes hard, the E-brake light goes on and goes off when I release. Whats causing this? I put new front pads on last November...and brakes feel fine.
Mine: 2004 Acura TSX
Family: 2005 Honda Odyssey EX, 2006 BMW 330i

Probably low brake fluid.  Check it.
No place I'd rather be...

SO if it is low brake fluid...would there be a leak??

By E-brake do you mean the EMERGENCY  or HAND BRAKE?....if so facto follow it's trail i imagine there is a switch/sensor near the hand brake lever...is it functional..jammed...dirty....and does the cable system initiating the E brakes on the rear
brakes function smoothly or is it too jammed dirty or seized up.....cable broken/stretched or come un tethered...???? GET DOWN AND DIRTY fella..............look see,,,,,,,,,,,,

ALL THIS CAN BE DONE FROM THE COMFORT OF YER ARSE ON THE DRIVEWAY...... :rofl2:

Aren't hand brake and ebrake the same thing? Well its the handbrake, and it works fine, so I am not sure if its the cables or whatnot. Maybe some type of sensor?

I read somewhere that if my brakes are worn out (pads), everytime I brake, more fluid would be used, and thats why the light comes on. Is this true? Could it be my rear brakes then, since the fronts are less than a year old? This is for the P5 BTW.

The brake fluid level slowly goes down as your brake pads wear down.  At some point it'll trigger the low fluid sensor in your brake fluid reservoir.

I just read the manual, and it says the fluid should be at MAX. Mine isn't at max, but its past the fill line. I guess I gotta top it off with Dot 3 brake fluid.

Don't overfill it or the next time the pads are changed it will overflow when the pistons in the calipers are pushed back in.  Just make sure it's at or slightly below the full line.

The light will likely also come on should the pressure between the front and rear circuits become unequal, this could be due to a leak or a faulty master cylinder.

Is your car a standard? Many clutches share the brake reservoir. A leaking slave cylinder can eat through the brake fluid mighty quick.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

The car is an auto...so no issues there. I filled up the fluid to MAX and the light doesn't come on anymore. I made sure I didn't overfill it.
