For those familiar with Petro-Canada's Glide Car washes I had a bit of a mishap yesterday with one of their wash systems.
Glide Car washes are offered in a limited geographic region of Ontario (maybe more provinces?) currently but I've found them to a bargain as far as a car wash. So much so that I've been using the Glide system near my home for two years now. You basically pay for 90 days of use and either pay around $100 or $150 interdependent on how many extras you desire. For example different types of wax, tire cleaners, brake dust cleaners, ionized water rinses, vacuum and spot remover systems, etc. etc. Bottom line, car wash for $1.50/day.
Yesterday after going through the wash the door at the end failed to open and the system dragged/pushed my car through the exit door. Fortunately it comes free of its hinges however, still scratches up the car in the process. It's an automated service without an attendant to stop the system once things go wonky however the process of washing cars is video taped such that they have the damage on film.
There was also another vehicle behind me that got the same "dirty-glove" treatment. Fortunately, a Peter-Canada Director. Strangely enough, another Peter-Canada exec was also gassing up at the same time and witnessed the damage being done. My honking of the RX-8's horn no doubt alerting people outside that something was amiss over in the car wash bay.
Filled out some paperwork detailing the incident, took the names of the PC execs, had froms copied, they phoned some other PC execs via their BB's and then his morning, received a phone call from yet another PC exec apologizing and arranging to have the RX-8 serviced at a body shop of my choice, advising that a rental car would be provided and another months worth of washes added to my wash card.
Although the car has not yet been repaired I must say that so far I've been impressed by the customer service with PC. Maybe the PC execs had something to do with it? Anyone with similar experience with type of incident?

I know an owner of an Esso station and at bbq last summer he held the men spell bound with stories of car wash mishaps  Cheesy.

And although one may see a sign posted right outside the car wash entrance absolving the company of any liability due to damage that may occur this is almost never enforced i.e they will settle very favourably.

They just sent me another e-mail.

"Mr Railton,
30 days have been added to your SeasonPass card. After speaking with you I also managed to locate a "Preferred Price" card that will allow you to save on fuel for your next several visits to Petro-Canada. I can forward to your office address (below) or another address of your choosing. Please verify the mailing address that you would like me to use."
 Thumbs up

Oh lucky YOU!

ME?  I got foobared by the same stupid wash.

I drove up, the tracks started going and the door NEVER opened!  The car hit the door, I threw it in reverse and just kept reversing while on the tracks.  Lucky for me there was a guy cleaning up, he stopped the thing.  Then hit start again the door went up, I went through the entire wash and it never ACTIVATED!

So I went into the store, got my money back and yelled at the dude, then I called petro-canada who said "Oh sorry about that" and did not thing for me!

So 2 stories of doors not opening, I'm not taking my chances with that place again.

I haven't purchased one of those season passes in a while...but I used to buy them all the time.  That particular wash does (did?) a great job on the wheels too.

Well, I guess you'll get your hood repainted on PCs coin Railton!

Great service for sure.  But I really have my doubts that if it wasn't witnessed by the execs that you'd be singing the same tune...I can just see it now. "How do we know those scratches on your hood came from our car wash?"

Anyways....this system seems a bit iffy hearing about yours and Wings issue.  I'll stick with the Touchless system at Sunoco for now..

When I send the MPV through the local Esso station car wash, they must have serviced it because the jets spraying down are set to 'peel paint' figuratively speaking.

The moonroof is the type that retracts into the roof, so there are a number of springs that keep the glass in the 'up' position (level with the roofline).  The pressure from the sprayer, when it gets to the rear part of the sunroof where the springs are, literally presses the moonroof down like I was opening it up.....resulting in a brief shower.   Tongue   Dealer said this is a problem with that type of moonroof and new high pressure sprayers.

Found an Esso with an older unit that isn't so enthusiastic to kill grime.

It's good they are fixing your RX-8.  I think it helps when someone with the proper authority champions your case.   I'll stick to hand washing.

With Glide car wash systems you have your choice of touchless or chamois cloth.

Sorry to heard to mis-hap, do glad the 8 gets a VIP treatment.

Off-topic, personally, I go to the spray self carwash with a time card. Still rather do it myself when it comes to cars.

Yes I hear you but after two years of this type of system I am a slave to it. I no longer have the time to spend doing this chore, nor the waxing. Fine by me.

The 8 needed the paint work anyway due to 5+ years of daily highway use.

I have been raving about this car wash for many years now (see Detailing Tips and Tricks section).  I've never had an "incident," and will continue to go there.  It does a phenomenal job.
