03 Audi A6 CVT(continuous variable trans) - your views?
« on: August 01, 2009, 02:13:18 pm »
Hi Guys, I'm looking at a Audi A6 with CVT(continuous variable transmission) . The initial reviews on this were 'the best thing for a luxury sedan' and stuff. But I read through some Audi Forums that a lot of people had problems with A6 CVT in '06 or later. Has any one here had an experience with it? I'm looking to buy one '03 A6 but not really sure how things with CVT are. This one has ~100K km's and as reported in Audi forums, it does have a shudder when accelerating from a stop to about 30-40 kmph, after that it's awesome. This is a multitronic 3.0 L. I guess I'm trying to get a valauble second opinion from this forum.

thanks for reading!

Stay away.

Those CVT's are known for problems and repair/failure is very $$$$.

Don't think there are many people on here who own one and can help you. Your best source of advice is the Audi forums.

However I would try and get the best possible warranty out there if you are adamant you want this car. The tranny has repair history and so that says be careful to me and do what you can to increase the odds of happy ownershp.

I would avoid it. The tranny has potential for costing about the same price as a base Aveo.

Why don't you look for a Quattro?

I'm not going the Quattro way due to price, ..: 01 A6, Q with 175K km's ~ $8000. This is 03,FWD,CVT,100K Km's about $7K...now I'm getting convinced now that it may be a bit cheap now but much costly later on...I'm looking for a car to get me thru 2 yrs without issues and then get rid of it...

I would go for G35 or Acura anyday !...I'm trying to find out the best deal ..I'm moving to Toronto for a while..I guess I'll have better luck there, Im in Windsor now, I know DETROIT is nearby, but I'm not really familiar with importing a used car as such...I did see a few good deals in craigslist in DET.

So, In your view, japanese luxury cars do better than German ones , eh?

You only need the car for 2 years. I'd look at resale value and future operating costs more than anything. And that's 2 areas the Japenese excel in.
