Glashütte, the home of Nomos and a number of other watchmakers, is the birthplace of Germany's watch industry. After WWII Glashütte wound up in East Germany, and the DDR government amalgamated each of the small watchmakers into one state-owned firm. After the fall of the wall, many of the little firms (like A. Lange) were re-established, and new companies, like Nomos, were founded.
