1987 Buick GNX - Never Found a Home

Quote
Check out this Buick! It's sitting on the showroom floor of Boulevard Buick/Pontiac/GMC in Long Beach, California. It's not just like new, it IS new. The car has 144 miles on it and is only driven occasionally to keep everything working. It's never been sold and never been registered. We asked the owner of the dealership how/why this car came to be he gave a very simple explanation - "The car simply never sold. In fact we only had one serious looker, a kid who couldn't qualify for financing. As the years went by and it continued to collect dust, we just decided to keep it."

This is truly a stunning car, anyone have a guess what it's worth now?

I think about $4500 if they take advantage of the Cash-For-Clunkers deal.

IIRC, there was one similarly mint as this one that sold for $70,000 or so.

I have no idea what it would be worth in this slumping market...maybe $50,000+?

Dunno! The true injustice with this car is that I was too young & making too little to afford one when it came out and now I can afford it but I am just too damn cheap to buy it  ::)  :P ;D

Ah well, maybe a Camaro with that spiffy interior... (right back at ya rrocket!)

Funny how quickly the times and standards change. I see that the GNX made 276 bhp......about the same as a mainstream V6 family sedan today!

Its never been registered so technically if you buy it it will still have a warranty? SWEET I would imagine OEM replacment parts are not easy to come by or cheap but hey its under warranty.

Its been driven 144 miles by dealer personell so its a demo right ..special discount for that I bet.

Well, from everything I read, the 276 was a largely under rated number. Nor do many family sedans today put out 360 lb/ft of torque. They were also very modifiable. There are some 1000+ hp GNX's and GN's running around out there right now

I really like those GNXs. Still see a few of the Non-X GNs around here in the summer time.

I guess that before driving it one would:

replace the tires
replace the battery
replace all hoses and belts and the wipre blades
replace all the lubricants and the brake fluid.  Including power steering fluid, transmission fluid, differential fluid.
Flush the a/c? probably have to replace R12 with R134 as well ( Not sure about when those rules came in)

Probably replace window and door seals at the first winter.

Most of those sedans don't have 360 ft. lbs. of torque, though. ;)

Very neat. I think it would be very difficult to value a car like this - a car with low low mileage is one thing, but one that has never even been registered? Quite unique, I would think... would be a shame to buy it and register it, though!

The GNX just exudes cool.  Period.

As for the whole "most family sedans have 270 horsepower nowadays" thing...No, the GNX below isn't stock...but good luck getting a Camry V6 to do this with any amount of modification:

I dunno...those plastics look pretty hard to me...and if they are, then, well...who cares about the rest of the car!

If it flies, floats or f#%&s...rent it.

Gotta say... on today's roads, it would qualify as a sleeper, I think.  I could easily mistake that thing for a K-car from the back.  Or an old Lumina.

Well, if you bought one of the RWD Camry V-8s that Toyota sells to make into their NASCAR race cars... what? Whaddaya mean, they don't make a RWD V-8 Camry? Why are they racing them then???   ;D
