Ford's new 6.7-litre diesel engine is a real powerhouse, says Technical Editor, Jim Kerr.  "With 735 foot pounds of torque, the diesel will pull the truck's maximum towing capacity of 11,068 kg (24,400 lbs) as if it wasn't even there!"

Ford is asking about 10000$ extra for this diesel engine. Excluding offer and demand does the extra amount is justified? Does it cost 10000$ more to build this engine? I know this amount worth it in long term, but 10000$ for more steel and more technology is-it not expensive?

Those valve covers must be a major pain to remove.  Hopefully the gaskets don't ever leak.  Like the fuel pump and fuel injector accessibility.  Will trade in my f150 if the price ever comes down.

Durability is paramount for Ford with this new motor.  It will be a defining moment for them because Ford has been killed $$$ wise with the previous NaviStar which was a disaster.  No more 50 hour jobs to remove the cab off the frame of the truck just to change the head gaskets.  Shocked   I'm sure Ford has really done their research on this motor and it will probably be good.  Has to be as this will be the last kick at the can.

The transmisions need to be heavier.  I also think the build in more warranty work into the price.

I now have both a 2003 and a 2004 Ford F250 TurboDiesel Super Dutys, botjh purchased new, and are used to tow trailers of over 11,000 lbs. Supurb trucks! Not a single issue of any kind, more reliable than any of the 5 Toyota automobiles I have owned in the past. I now have a new 2011 F450 TurboDiesel crew cab long bed dually on order!  I intend to tow a new large 5th wheel RV trailer with it.

The poster that complained about the additional $10,000.00 for the diesel needs to know that this includes the new 6.7 Scorpion 100% Ford built and designed Engine, as well as the terrific all new 6 speed automatic transmission. And Ford charged the same last year and the year before for the diesel option...no increase!  Diesels are expensive, and Dodge and GMC diesels charge the same premium for their Cummins and Duratec Diesel/transmission combo's as well. You save more than that over the life of the truck is reduced fuel cost and maintenance.

And you'll note that most diesel pickups get 10 to 16 miles per gallon when laden with a big trailer and towing. This new 2011 Ford gets 30 mpg, and this is the 4th independant article that used the author to test drive one of these new F-series trucks with the "Scorpion" diesel, and they got 30 mpg or better! Amazing technology for sure!

The 6.0 Navistar Diesel Ford used was a disaster, cost Ford billion in warranty claims and ended in a nasty lawsuit between the 2 companies both blaming the other.  The 6.4 had major head gasket failures and astronomical labour costs due to obstructions.

This new 6.7 needs to be perfect.
