First Drive: The redesigned 2010 Chevrolet Equinox is a winner, says Assistant Editor Jil McIntosh. Fuel economy is class-leading, the four-cylinder engine is smooth and sweet, it's very comfortable, and it easily stands up to its rivals from Toyota and Honda, she says. This looks like a GREAT effort!! Way to go GM! Overall, I like it! My only gripe? I wish they made a Buick version that looks like the Enclave...I REALLY like the exterior styling of that vehicle. Props to GM for this re-design. |

This is a fantastic redesign. It's just the right size, choice of powertrains including efficient 4/6-spd combo, apparently drives well, seats really are wonderfully supportive, lots of content, logical packaging (although no heated cloth available), some style (not the best materials but it's also not premium priced - they're decent, fit together well, and are at least somewhat inspiring), and looks more expensive than the boring competition.
I don't like the red inserts for the storage cubbies (why red?), and also I fear the silver buttons will start to fade, flake, or something of the sort. For the sake of owners, hope I'm wrong.
I'd place it in the top 3 of the compact ute class, alongside Forester and Tiguan.
Well done! |

Not my kind of vehicle, yet I too echo the effort...looks like a very compelling package. Kenzie did a reivew on this too: http://www.wheels.ca/article/764593"The challenge for Equinox will be getting on the shopping lists of CR-V and RAV4 intenders.
My own sister-in-law, a multi-time Honda owner.......
Would she have even considered a Chevrolet if it had been on sale when she made that purchase? Probably not." |

All mention conquest sales from RAV and CRV consumers, isn't the Escape the top seller in Canada? |

Escape is selling heavily on price (I see them routinely advertised well-equpped at $18 - 22,9 leather 4WD) so don't think Chevrolet wants to go there yet. |

The Rav4 and CR-V have been embedded in peoples minds. Good effort by GM though. Props to them. Now will people actually buy it without the rebates/heavy discounts? |

Likely not my kind of vehicle either, but this looks very good. The popularity of the RAV4 amazes me. It is no longer cheap, no longer compact, and doesn't appear to compete very well, but people still buy it because of the Toyo name and reputation. A coworker recently went thru the buying experience in this segment and ended up with a Santa Fe. The RAV was the other one on her list, but similarly equipped it was almost $10K more expensive and quickly was dismissed. |

You should widen your circle of friends. In June the Escape outsold the RAV4 and CRV combined. |

Just hope GM has improved the quality. My sister-in-law has an 06 Torrent that drove really nice when she first bought it. Now it drives more like a Lada Niva and spends a lot of time in the shop and only has 45,000kms on it. |

I do not know if this point really has any merit considering Canada is one of the Japanese car companies best markets. If price is the deciding factor of Canadian car consumers then why are the other heavily discounted Ford vehicles not at the top of the sales charts? And are you saying that the other car manufacturers selling cars in Canada are not offering incentives during these not so fine car selling days? |

I took am Equinox for a rip. I am 6'1" & the drivers cabin is a little cramped. It needs to be a little wider. The 4cylinder awd performed ok -ish. The deal breaker is that in allmost every engine-drivetrain combination it,s virtually the same price as a venza & that car is a lot better. |

I saw one of these on a dealer's lot today, the first I have seen in person. It was a red LS model. These sorts of vehicles aren't my cup of tea anyway, and this one did nothing to change that. So I didn't expect to love it, but there were two things that made a very poor first impression. The instrument cluster looks rather strange and somewhat cheap; and this one had the cheapest-looking seat upholstery I have seen in some time. It looked like a very light gray knit material with narrow ovals punched into it to reveal a black underlayer. Just awful. |

2010 Equinox is BIG value right now. Our dealership has been overwhelmed and caught off gaurd by how successful we have been. We had truck loads of these dropped off but we are selling them faster then we can get them. We currently have one left and now we are not getting more anytime soon :-(
GM announced that they have added a 3rd shift in order to keep up with the demand. I think by the end of the year there will be favourable sales numbers that will finally eclipse the Escape which is historically the segment leader.
Best Features:
6 speed transmission with a 182 Horsepower direct injected engine with 46 Miles Per Gallon WOW!!! |

How is it possible that after electricity has traveled through hundreds of miles of power line then hundreds of feet (or yards) of romex in our home, that changing the last three feet of wire with something exotic, expensive (cool looking, and packaged in a pricey box) is going to make a difference?

Equinox and Traverse. GM is really getting its money's worth using across the board that distinctive Chevrolet front end. Soon to appear on a Corvette? |
