Awesome article, except I'm crying foul on the inclusion of the 996 - it simply does not belong on the list: agreed the 996 didn't exactly represent a high point for porsche styling, and they haven't been the most mechanically robust 911's, but when they ran well, didn't they still drive like Porsches? And aren't they now very affordable, compared to the 993's and early 997's? Sure, maybe the relatively low entry price of these cars attract clueless poseurs and Lionel Hutzes, but it's also a cheap way for enthusiasts to get in on the R/R driving goodness. Not pretentious, then.
