^^Not only that....they made the redesign smaller, and lighter and more powerful.  That seems to rarely happen...

Aint that the freakin' truth.  Nissan seems to be one of the VERY few manufactureres bucking the bigger / heavier trend.  Current Altima, Maxima and Z - all smaller than the cars they replaced.

Very good point, I love the current Nissan range.

And other reviewers have loved it.

Any chance we can leave the Camaro interior for this thread?

Go figure, a French auto manufacturer turns around a Japanese one.

Which is likely why that has been discussed in the other 4687 posts on the Camaro interior around here....

I don't mind the new Camaro, but I still think the Mustang is the better "Pony" car between this and the Challenger.  The only part the Mustang loses on is the "paper battle".  It has the lowest HP rating of the three, although it is also the lightest by about 300 pounds for the Camaro and about 600 pounds for the Challenger.  Hopefully, the 2011 Mustang gets an affordable engine upgrade next year (the GT500 is way too expensive).  Rumour has it the 5.0L is coming back, but they already have a 5.4L V8, why not just use that, save some money and keep the car as affordable as possible (after all, we do have to put gas in it) Smiley

I can remember trying to buy a new Z28 many years ago. The local dealers all had them on their lots, but not a single one with intermittent wipers. Unless the wipers were ordered from the factory, the cost of adding them later was either prohibitive (factory equipment) or ugly (third party).

Living in Vancouver, intermittent wipers are as essential as snow tires in Ottawa. This simple device was standard in import cars costing far less, but unobtainable without a factory order by Chevrolet dealers trying to advertise a cheap price.

Reading the review for day one brought back that memory. The car looks and sounds attractive as you read the pricing - but it keeps going up and up. The base model with the attractive price is stripped of all the nice features that made you look in the first place.

Although GM's pricing structure has been simplified from the bad old days, there's still a long way to go.

Huh

Did you really just compare the absence of a a sunroof and HID headlamps to the absence of windshield wipers?  Those things are optional on most non-luxury cars, import or domestic.

No, I didn't really just make that comparison; you did. If you read my posting carefully the words "sunroof" and "HID headlamps" don't even appear. Thanks for trying to stuff the words in my mouth but that's not where they came from.

This inaccurate summary of what I had to say is a pretty good example of why there's no point in trying to have a rational discussion on an internet forum. Too many straw man arguments from people who can't make their point any other way.

Well, stop creating straw men, and then we won't have to worry about them.
You started talking about your experiences with a different car, same in name only, almost a decade ago, with this one. The option packages are completely different. Mitlov even listed the standard equipment on the vehicle, which is very comprehensive.
His reference to HID lights and sunroofs are because they are about the only functional options you can get for it. Other stuff falls into luxuries (leather interiors) or  just stuff for added style (bigger, shinier wheels, etc).

I have and always will have a soft spot for the Chevy Camaro. I had a first production year 93 Z28. Unfortunately the car was a handful on anything but dry pavement. Not a winter car by any stretch especially with no traction control on the trim level I bought. Long story short looking forward to seeing this new generation on the roads. V8 or V6 don't matter since all you'll be seeing is my beautiful 08 STI rear end.  Wink

I listed those because those were the optional extras on the test-car.  You were complaining that stuff that should have been standard were optional, so I looked at what was optional on the test car.  It was:

Automatic transmission
Body kit
Giant wheels
Sunroof
HID headlamps
Boston Acoustic sound system
Bluetooth
USB port
Heated seats
Leather seating surfaces

So...which of these options were you talking about when you started griping about options that should be standard?

It is all about economy of scale. Few platforms and more sales means more money for engineering, pure and simple. Even The New GM (tm) has figured that out. The Camaro shares a platform and engine with the Commodore, which is a good thing.

I'd pay a few thousand more for the Nissan 370z. The 370z is flawless ..it's got performance and style, among other things. Better than the outgoing 350z and anything else in its class. I can't wait to see the comparison test for both(camaro and 370z)!!

Well, this thread is discussing the CTC review of the Camaro.  And the bulk of the Day 2 review focussed on the interior.

If everyone hates the freak'n interior so much, why are they following this review.  There's nothing that's going to come out of it to change their minds.

Oh ya...I forgot...DOMESTIC CAR PILE-ON!!!

See above.

On the plus side, the 1000km trip planned for this thing should give it the opportunity to post up some really good mileage figures.

While pretty much what I had anticipated, but a little beyond my expectations, I believe we may have set a record for the most responses to a day-by-day review after the first day.

I don't think I've ever seen a car that gets this forum riled up (both lovers and haters) more than the new Camaro does.  Even the squabbles over the R35 GT-R pale in comparison.

An EcoBoost V6 would be a fantastic engine for the base Mustang. Not sure if it would be cheap enough, but if it boosted stock HP to 300 I think Ford could up the MSRP a little.

Even our esteemed Canadian Driver reviewer seems to hold the opinion that the Camaro interior is hideous. Poor GM (tm), just never seems to get things quite right. The 370Z, however, is droolicious in this price range. Fast, powerful, lightweight, great interior.
