Would anyone buy this car based on the recent troubles faced by GM?  Keep in mind this is only GM's first real attempt to get back into business...quality and reliability issues are still top concerns for the comsumer. Nearly $38k before taxes...hmmm...that's alot to pay. A yr or two later the price will be half of that or less. American cars just don't have the value it deserves. The styling is awesome though..i give credit to GM.

GM's financial troubles would not dissuade me from buying a GM car.

The interesting thing is that silverbullet3's comment is pretty much on par with how GM is perceived by the general public.  You can't really blame them since all you hear on the news is that GM is bankrupt and their sales are at an all time low ... like most manufacturers but they usually forget that part.  All those so called "analysts", who the week before were political or environmental specialists, are all using the same dramatic catch phrases like "GM doesn't build vehicles people want to buy".

GM deserves the reputation it earned years ago but most people think nothing has changed since.

It has been a long time since I have walked into a Chevy Dealer Showroom but I did just to see the new Camaro. They had a good looking Black SS on the showroom floor with the manufacturer option and price list attached to the window. I was jumped right away by a sales person who informed me before they would even open the door of the car to let me see the inside that they wanted $15K over the window sticker. This really makes me feel like I want to persue a GM manufactured vehicle. Next year they will be discounting the car.
Thanks GM and your dealers.
Just my thoughts.

Why are you upset, that is the independent dealers selling price
When plazma TV came out they were 15gs, some people bought them, now they are about 1.5gs
If you do not like the price you walk.

It just seems that GM has not changed, they continue to resurrect cars from the past, albeit they say "just wait for the volt"......well Honda just released a new hybrid and Toyota their third gen Prius.  If GM wants to remain competitive, they need to start making cars of the future, not from the past.

Roll Eyes What do plasma TVs have to do with cars? If you read what he typed....

$15K over MSRP is a joke but hey if they actually think somebody will pay that, good luck.

How is it possible that after electricity has traveled through hundreds of miles of power line then hundreds of feet (or yards) of romex in our home, that changing the last three feet of wire with something exotic, expensive (cool looking, and packaged in a pricey box) is going to make a difference?

As a comparison, the very nicely equipped Nissan 370 Z is about $2000 away and has many nice standard features like leather and aluminum trimmed pedals, viscous differential, homelink, auto dimming mirror, blue tooth, nice audio system, etc. Nice cross shop.

That new 370Z is priced extremely aggressively now. Couldn't believe it when I first read the MSRP.

As for the Camaro, love the look and could live with the interior except for the lack of head room. I'd take a V6 6MT 1LT RS with power sunroof, Boston Acoustics sound, and Convenience/Connect pkg in Inferno Orange with white stripes please - $33,195.

$38k?  Yikes - gets pricey fast, doesn't it? Didn't we just see an Infiniti G37 tested here for about the same dough?

And is the V6 Camaro fully tapped out at this price point, or can you inflate that price even further?  Huh  I mean with legitimate factory options, not utterly absurd dealer-grubbing $15k markups.

Go to the website, looks like $42k would be the max for a V6

Will someone please enlighten me.

Is a range between $33k  and $42k   before assorted taxes and fees too much for:

A Camaro
A Chevy
A 6 cyl car
All of the above
Any car

In a world where it is possible to spend twice that on a tarted up PICKUP TRUCK!

Can you say 'Going Upmarket' boyz and gurlz.....knew ya could....where'd I put that damn cardigan again.... Wink

I hope GM knows what it's up against in the nosebleed-pricing seats they are reaching for.

One part product perception, one part 'bringing-the-goods'.

The prices are only nosebleed-seating when you load up the car with options.  But really, how many Camaro owners are going to opt for the Boston Acoustics sound system and the 20" wheels?  Very few.  And if you grab a midrange trim level (of either the V6 or V8), and add just one or two options that you really want, it's very cheap for what you get.

Remember that manufacturers often supply test cars to car magazines with far more options than those cars typically have on the street.  That's not just a GM thing or a Camaro thing.

Oh, oh.

http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/13/breaking-early-camaro-ss-manual-transmission-failures-reported/

Is on the SS, but still....?!

To be expected with a new model, probably rushed somewhat to production.

Well, Mitlov, you and many of your friends really need to do just that, go out and buy one. That is what the New GM (tm) needs more than anything. But in my experience GM fanbois do a lot of fanboi-ing and not enough buying and therein lies the problem.

Forgive my skepticiism having watched GM "reinvent" itself more often than I can remember, the latest reinvention being courtesy of my wallet.

Opps, have we not heard this before:

"It seems that doing a hard launch or using the launch control system occasionally results in a broken output shaft, a serious failure that will most likely leave the car immobile and in need of repair"

Not just Nissan I guess.

For me, I do not like the looks of the Camero, insdie or out, it just does not do anything for me.  Of course, I did not like any of the pre 2010 ones either   Undecided

Come on, man, you are just spreading rumours. Cars from the New GM (tm) are the most reliable on the market. Lies! All lies!

Oh...here's an original response...

Well, Mitlov, you and many of your friends really need to do just that, go out and buy one.

Blah blah blah fanbois blah blah blah skepticiism blah blah blah

This from Al Hinds, Hummer and Corvette Specialist at Schlueter Chevrolet Hummer:

I have had 8 camaros in and out everything is pre sold. If you want a car I am ordering now for late fall...

....they need to start making cars of the future, not from the past.

I thought they needed to make cars people bought...oh...no that must have been the other 100 people on here.
