Ok so my Dad decided to buy a new car w/o trading in the old car, but instead wants to give (or sell for very very low value) the car to his friend.
However the new car came before everything is finished with the old one and the plates are transferred to the new one. The old car now sits there without plate, insurance, nor driver.
Can someone tell me what the law is in Ontario regarding unplated vehicles? I know nobody can drive it as is, but is it violating any laws by just sitting there in the driveway? Can I park it on the side of the road next to the house?
Also, I've learned that safety and emission tests need to be performed before the transfer of ownership can take place. Will any garage be able to perform these tests or are there specific places we have to tow the car to?
Lastly, does the vehicle have to be present during the transfer of ownership at the Ministry? Are they going to give an estimated value base on the car, or just the red / black / whatever book according to the make and year?
Thanks for any reply...
