why diesel if we have other sources link gas. diesel is to make air environment piloted in the country. and then it will cases many disses.

As the subject-line says - cost-aside, would you buy a diesel just for the torque.

Having driven one where you really get to experience the beauty of torque, in the Dolomites where hairpins are hairpins and steep grades take on a different meaning, the answer is YES.

The other advantages are low cruising revs and better L/100 kms.

Would I buy one here? Maybe.

You think you have it bad.

Go and price a set of plug wires for a dual ignition 993...thats 14 wires and 12 spark plugs.

Just a thought: We always focus on the good things about Diesel. Don't get me wrong. I do love diesel and I would trade in my old outback for a diesel one if Subaru does bring one in. However, have we asked about the cost of ownership? Fuel cost is significantly lower undoubtedly, but I heard that maintainence for new VW diesel is ridicuously expensive. The TDI engine needs some sort of exotic synthetic oil (your Mobil 1 won't cut it). Would that be a concern for some of us?

These new diesels in general do need oil with specific properties. I believe it is because of the emissions systems... something to do with low ash for the health of the  particulate filters.  The oil is expensive, partially because it is a low volume product in NA although it is not that cheap in euland either.
My take on this is.. So what.   Your and my GTIs both require synthetic oil & premium gas which some people think are terrible things to have to pay for and have said ( I have seen this on this forum) that they would NEVER buy a car that used premium.   Its just part of the cost of driving these days... one COULD always buy an Aveo.

FWIW Mobil do make an oil with the required properties... but good luck finding it at CT.
