More JDP 90-day stuff......talk to me in 3 or 4 years; then I might put some value in this report.  Roll Eyes

EDIT - added TTAC websites take on the JDP 90 day stuff, same as my feelings:

These ratings don't really mean much. People tend to be pretty happy in the first 90 days of their new car.

Considering that most people don't know anything about cars...yes this list is worthless.

Do you even keep cars for 3 or 4 years?? Considering 90 days is about how long you normally keep cars, I would 've thought that you'd appreciate this 90-day study of quality...  Grin

Good one, Shnak.  Grin Grin

I recall once in 1977 I only kept a car for a month before it was gone. That's the worst tho..... Wink Wink

Yea.  90 days initial quality means little to me.  Sure you might find a few bugs in the first 90 days that are covered by warranty.  But it's the 3 and 5 year studies that mean the most to me.  That's when any issues that occur are usually out of pocket expenses.

I have to agree that this JD Power thing is pretty useless.  For example, I see Mini finished last and yet CR rates it as "Good" and gives it a "recommended" rating.

Initial quality?  It might a decent indicator of how well the assembly plant screws down the car.  Long term reliability is more important since most people care what happens AFTER the warranty expires.

I like how every year, JD Power releases the initial quality survey, and every year, the exact same discussion occurs on CTC Wink

 Laugh at Post Above
 I Agree

OTOH, the initial quality of this CTC thread seems quite high.  Let's see what staying power it has.

How JD Power comes up with these Initial Quality ratings is beyond me. The numbers make no sense at all, for example Porsche. It gets a perfect 5 out of 5 in overall quality, yet in 3 out 4 categories it gets less than that, in the mechanical category it only gets 2 out of 5. How the hell does that add up to a perfect score? Huh Shocked

VW scores 3 out of 5 in overall quality, and scores the same in 2 out of 4 categories, in the others only 2 out of five.
Nissan scores 3 out of 5 in all 4 categories, yet has the same overall quality rating of 3 out of 5 as VW??

The biggest surprise is that anyone pays attention to this BS.

Perfect score = you've paid JDPower the invoice in full.
