This is quite a turn of events.  Porsche was going to take over VW and now the tables have turned:

On May 6, Porsche and Volkswagen set a four-week deadline to create an “integrated” auto concern, but the deadline came and went amid some very public sniping from Mr. Piëch. The conflict centers on whether a fusion would simply make Porsche the 10th brand within the sprawling VW empire, or whether it would be a merger of equals.

Hopefully, Porsche will remain as independent as it can be.  The VW empire influence will only water down the brand and the in-house rivalry would complicate Porsche's creative liberties.  Putting a little VW/Audi into Lambo was a great move (for the most part) but Porsche is another animal.  Is this the end of the Porsche we know and love?

I should hope and think not.  Don't VWAG and Porsche already share some technology?  The Cayanne shares its platform with the Touareg, for example.

Lamborghini has maintained much of its independence and only been made better by an infusion of German engineering.  Porsche, which is already German, should be fine.

Though I wonder if a VW acquisition means we might see a successor to the 924...  something built on the Scirocco platform, maybe?   Shocked
