Day 1:

2010 Ford Fusion SEL

So, this week I'm in a Ford -- but not in a Focus, and neither were half the photos I took of the 2010 Ford Fusion, so I had to retake them.  I may have been a little hasty calling the Acura TL "The Grille," because the Fusion sure has a face to challenge the TL's. But, although it is nearly as large and imposing, the Fusion's grille looks good!  More...

In one paragraph you say "some very nice luxury features as standard,such as : leather heated seats" in the next paragraph you say "leather trimmed seating which adds $1,225" So,is leather standard on the $28,799 SEL or is it a $1225 option?

There is leather standard and optional leather trimmed leather seats (IE: full leather)

Ahh, I think I get it...Do you mean the standard seats are leather with vinyl sides and backs vs all leather for the $1225?

I think so... that's what I gather from the options list.  I've never seen the basic one so I can't confirm.

I've seen a bunch of these spring up over the past couple weeks, so initial sales seem to be good. It's a good looking car--the only nitpick I have with it is the overhangs, but Ford's designers did a good job working around it. If I was in the market for a midsize sedan, I'm fairly sure this would be it. The Camry is exceedingly dull, the Accord feels like a barge and is overpriced, the Altima's CVT turns me off, etc... Ford's got a real contender if they can shed their 90's/early-00's image.

My brother who has decided to try his hand selling cars has just started at (shameless plug) Dan Murphy Ford (Ottawa area) this week, and was telling me how much nicer the new Fusion is. Its hard to tell from pics but the interior textures do look to be of higher grade plastics.
When I get over to Canada this July I will get my bro to set up some test drives in the new Fusion and new Taurus. I am especially interested to drive the Fusion with the new 2.5l engine mated to the 6spd manual.

I liked the previous Fusion's driving dynamics, but wasn;t overly fond of the looks of the exterior and found the interior to be on the low rent side of the coin, plus the seats were un comfortable.

It appears in the pics alot of those concerns have been addressed.

It would be interesting to compare the difference in the previous 3.0l to newly tweaked 3.0l powerplant.

FYI the V6 SEL FWD standard seats are cloth,  heated leather are optional @ $1,225

WIng are the rear head restraints adjustable?

Folks (70's) sent back their old 2007 fusion (boring very dependable car) and just got a 2010.

Good all round car. Impressed with 6speed auto. It is alot better than the older model's tranny. Makes the engine (3.0L) perform better. Handles about the same. The interior is a huge step for a ford and the exterior styling has a little bit of a sporty/aggressive look. If they can keep the same reliability as the previous gen this car will sell well. Allso it is being made without any bailout money.

This is not so much a total redesign but a evolutionary design. (if it ain't broke don't fix it) Ford did a great job evolving this car to it's next generation something that some other manufacturers should of done (aka Acura TL)

I have just ordered the 2010 Fusion SEL I-4 all equipped . This is the best buy on the market today for a midi sized car  After owning a 2006 Ford Five Hundred for 3 years with excellent results I am most impressed with Ford . Cannot lease the Honda Accord as they do not allow visits to the US for more than 30 days  I agree with the above comments about Honda and Toyota

Fusion - Gillete Mach 3 Razor blade look. Looks kind of sharp
Acura  TL-  Tip of an old can openner look.  Ummm.

I've seen a few of these in person, it actually reminds me of the newer Saab 93, especially with those rims, and in black. The new Fusion looks like a quality car, I really think I would give it a chance over the Japanese competition.

One thing I do really like about the car is that they still keep the emergency brake at the centre console. Alot of automatic cars (and so called sports cars) have foot brakes so it is nice to see a hand brake. I use mine all the time in my mazda 3 and maxima. Starting on steep hills and in the snow to prevent the from end from plowing on a sharp turn (fun).
