I'm glad Ford is focusing on cars like the Fusion that can satisfy the masses, from the soccer mom or salary man to a retiree. Unfortunately, GM actually feels focusing on the new Camaro will be their saving grace. I can see those with nostalgia for muscle cars buying them. But soccer mom, average joe, or war vet? I'm not so sure. Fusion is gonna smoke their Malibu, and the Fusion Hybrid is already better than the Toyota Prius. Ford has got all their bases covered.

I know. It leaves Ford unprepared to do battle with the Accord wagon, Camry wagon, Altima wagon, Mazda6 wagon, Galant wagon, Malibu wagon, and Avenger/Sebring wagon. Actually, come to think of it, with rumors of Subaru not bringing the wagon version of the new Legacy to North America (instead relying solely on the Outback), is the Passat Wagon the last of its kind on our shores? |

Ford have enough crossovers to avoid the wagon thing, imho.
(Not saying that crossovers are better...)
Fusion wise...midrange models look well priced. Fusion Sport is pretty comical at $36k though...perilously close to a G37 (with which it simply cannot compare). |

Yes indeed, silly Ford. So $36,000 Altima, Mazda 6, Accord & Camry do compare to a G37? Besides the Fusion Sport bearing a Blue Oval, what is comical, is it the lack of comparable features, dynamics, reliability, safety ratings, high servicing costs,fit and finish? |

Accord EX-L V6 Navi: $37,390. Camry XLE w/ Nav: $37,850. Altima with leather and nav: $39,598. ...and none of those offer AWD like the Fusion Sport does. |

Shame there's not a nice wagon version of this car. Wagons do not sell in the states therefore no wagons for us. It sucks. Fusion that can satisfy the masses, from the soccer mom or salary man to a retiree.  From a inexpensive base 2.5L - 4 cylinder with a 6 speed manual to a loaded 3.5L V6 engine with all wheel drive this car has alot of bases covered. |

Let's see if someone can spot the difference in these two pictures: Trunk of the Fusion:  Trunk of a Civic:  That's right! The big ugly cable! Why are we still seeing the cables for the trunk light in 2009? That's just terrible design/penny-pinching IMO. If Ford cuts the corner to save a dollar or two here, what is it doing in other parts of the car that we can't actually see? Bad bad bad... |

the other thing I see is outside mounted struts on the ford that do not intrude into the trunk...
I also see a parcel shelf mounted brake light on the honda but the Ford's brake light is mounted on the trunk so it's not a fair comparison at all... |

Well here's the Mazda3... There's a cable there, but at least it's not dangling INSIDE the trunk. It's just a much more elegant solution IMO.  EDIT: And here's the trunk of the Jetta.  You can't honestly tell me that the Fusion doesn't scream penny-pinching compared to the Mazda3 and Jetta approaches. It's only a small detail, I know... but small details often show how much effort went into the design and engineering of a vehicle. Small details also show 'last minute screwups and fixes'... IMO, of course. |

After looking at the Fusion trunk picture again, I've just noticed something worse than the cable... look at the rubber that sits at the bottom of the window... it's falling off in the middle!!! |

Accord trunk pic seeing it is the same segment as Fusion http://bit.ly/6uVVF  Accord has a cable as well but hidden slightly by the hinge I am hoping Wings tester is a pre-production build, if not it is pretty shoddy workmanship |

If you were to post the full picture of some Honda trunk lids you'd notice that there is no lining at all - just bare metal. This is what I consider a good example of cheap execution. EDIT: Picture added.  |

Well I can't argue on that point; I agree with you. I don't mind that as much as a dangling cable though... it's purely esthetics. There is a real possibility of getting that dangling cable caught in something and pulling on it. It's not tied down or anything. That's just bad. |

2006 ford fusion Trunk top 2010 bottom. The wire is not exposed to the elements like the Jetta or mazda and the accords hinge inposes on the interior space of the trunk. I dont' know you have to look at it in person to see how much slack is in the trunk after it closes.   |

Not something I'd expect to see in a car of this class.  Even my cheap-and-nasty old Neon had the trunk cables well-secured and out of the way, tucked into protective sleeves and tied to the trunk hinges.  This is my Versa's trunk. A hatch I know, but no portion of the cables are exposed or dangling.  |
