So do you want the Camaro to have 2/3s the power and a live rear axle?  The Camaro is more expensive than the Mustang for a reason.

The Mustang has consistently outsold the Camaro forever. It is a more livable car. It has been in continuous production in one form or another since 1964. The current model has an unbroken heritage since 1979. Ford has excelled at giving it's customers what they want with their Mustang. I would wager that the Camaro won't last that long but the Mustang will live on. GM doesn't have the budget for halo cars at the moment. For Ford, the Mustang is not a halo car. They make good  money on every one they sell.

In theory you can build a Camaro for $30k in Canada. In reality, try getting one for that at the moment. The Mustang V-6 is an excellent package at $24,449 including freight and PDI. GM is going to have a hard time competing with Ford with this.  You can even put a V-8 on the road for less than $29k. It's a screaming deal.

"At the moment" .  It's a brand new model.  The fact is, if you want a Camaro for $27k, it's available.  Your $25 500 (yes, $25.5 before delivery allowance) has 90 fewer horsepower and prehistoric suspension.  That's not to say it's a bad car, only that both cars offer excellent value.

And for the record, even the Mustang GT barely eclipses the V6 Camaro for power.

For me, the substantial upgrade in horsepower and the substantial upgrade from 1960's suspension technology would be WELL worth the extra dough for the Camaro versus the V6 'Stang.

And the Mustang GT starts at $37,000...

Canada can't order a cheaper cloth seat version that the Americans can order.

The as-tested car was a Camaro 2LT with, on top of everything the 2LT trim level gives you, $5,000 of additional options.  The car is absolutely loaded to the gills with options in order to hit $37,000.  But you can get the same basic chassis and drivetrain for $6,000 less than the starting price of of the Genesis Coupe V6.

The prices are even more impressive when you compare the wage rates of where these cars are built.

Some might comment that having the first cars being loaded up (i.e. higher profit) is a smart thing...given the first couple of new model sports cars go to people that "want them".

In fact, Korean auto worker are well paid. Korea is not a third work country by any stretch of the imagination.

You guys should clarify what year you are talking about. The $6500 del. allowance is on '09s and the $37000 is on the 2010.

Well, the Camaros seem to be trickling into the Canadian dealers.

I got a call from Nick at Leggat in Burlington to tell me about a v6-auto-cloth-moonroof they got in last Thursday.  They got an Orange SS-MT on Friday and put it into the showroom.  They certainly generated a lot of traffic (according to Nick)...and lead to a guy buying a Malibu that just came in to see the Camaro.

Not that today was driving weather...the dealer is asking for a deposit before you take it for a drive.  Fair enough that they feel they can sell the car regardless...and I understand the guy buying a car doesn't want to have 400 km on it...but hey...you can't learn much from a trip around the block.

Checking GM.ca...there seem to be no V6s with the MT...so I may have to try an AT to see what she feels like.

I must say that the exhaust sounds pretty weak...if it sounded like the Nissan V6...it may have been all over.

Still trying to find a test drive.

Did get to sit in one and start it up. V6 sounded ok, but not musical like the G37. Then again, it is $15K less...
