Saab purchased by Koenigsegg!!!

Oh.  My.  God.  This is so awesome.

This will certainly result in awesome cars.  Whether it will result in good cars remains to be seen.  But I fail to see how Saab's acquisition by a quirky Swedish supercar company could result in anything but quirky, awesome Saabs.

If you don't know what a Koenigsegg is:

"Geography has made us neighbors. History has made us friends. Economics has made us partners. And necessity has made us allies. Those whom nature hath so joined together, let no man put asunder. What unites us is far greater than what divides us." -- John F. Kennedy, addressing Canadian Parliament.

Seems like a good match to me. Saab gets an infusion of Koenigsegg mojo and Koenigsegg gets a significant dealer/service network and an opportunity to get into a more mainstream segment of the auto market.

I'm looking forward to seeing the products resulting from this. ;D ;D

Saab and K might be a good fit.

I wonder how deep K's pockets are, tho?? Time will tell, I guess.

Think SAAB already has fresh product developed, just waiting to be launched.

Koenigsegg looks to be a well managed albeit small company, with superb supercar (don't know much about them and not sure what else they do?).

I think they could really build off each other. SAAB should get itself far more exposure and exclusivity (hopefully they can charge for being more rare/'individual', rather than discounting and devaluing the brand in an attempt to move more metal) from the luxury performance crowd, Koenigsegg nets itself more global dealer network and way to spread costs of technology across higher volume of sales.

Best of all it remains Sveeeedish!

Yeah, it's good it's still a Swedish company.
Hope things work out for them. They don't deserve to go belly up.

How's SCANIA going? I don't think SCANIA and Saab are tied up anymore though...

Koenigsegg nets itself more global dealer network

How is it that they get a global dealer network? I'm not up on Saab dealers around the world but Penske bought the Saturn brand in the US only IIRC and in Canada since Saturn and Saab have been tied together that might pose a problem?

In Europe SAAB is a stand alone company? Or are they also merged with others?

With all of these deals going on methinks there will be some sorting out for real estate as they sort out the separation.

At least Saab vehicles will now accelerate as fast as they depreciate.

The "Saab-Saturn" pairing up is Canada-only.  In the States, Saab isn't tied with Saturn and generally has stand-alone dealers, or they're tied with other brands by the dealer regardless of corporate affiliation (like Southern Oregon Subaru Volvo Mitsubishi in Medford).  So there might be some "sorting out" in Canada, I don't see any problems worldwide.

Even in Canada though, the Saab/Saturn dealers have some sort of Saab franchise agreement, service equipment and training, and so on.  Even with the split of the two brands, there might be an opportunity to use the existing Saab infrastructure, even if it is minimal.
No place I'd rather be...

This is pretty cool.  i hope it works out for both companies.  Scania and SAAB are no longer linked.  VW owns 68.6% of Scania.

GM will likely be the distributor of Saab cars in North America for the next few years although Saab will be an independent company outside of GM. Watch for GM to have a small stake in Saab like Opel when the deal is finalized.

So what will they do for dealership network? I'm sure the canadian market wouldn't warrant a brand new standalone network...

Why not use the current dealer network?  You don't need to have only one company's brands selling through a dealership.  In Medford, there's a single dealership (a single building, not a chain of different locations owned by the same company) that sells Subaru AND Volvo AND Mitsubishi.

I don't see why the existing Saab-Saturn dealer network in Canada couldn't sell both Penske Saturns and Koenigsegg Saabs.
