Hi I was wondering if anyone has had any success with removing the crank pulley from a 2004 optra?  The outer ring of the pulley actually came off the old one so I need to replace it.  I have the 4 small bolts removed but because of the position of the pulley in the car and the car's frame I am having troubles removing it.  I tried a couple of different pullers but could not get even pressure on all sides to remove it.  Any ideas or do we know if I need a special puller.

Thanks

I doubt anyone here has first hand knowledge of removing the crank pulley from an Optra.  maritime_storm?  Squishy?

Is there a GM dealer nearby where you can ask a mechanic for advice?  Slip him a $10 and you'll be golden.

No knowledge of an Optra, sorry.  I've only ever seen an Optra three times, on the road.

Since writing this post I was in contact with the folks at Bruce Gm in Middleton, NS and was talking to one of their tecs who informed me that all I needed was some penetrating oil and a hammer.  I gave it a spray of Rust Check penetrating oil (great stuff by the way) and let it sit for a minute and then after a couple minutes of gentle tapping it fell right off.

Hope this is of some help to others in the future.

Now that you mention it...., we changed one about 2 months ago, as was just mentioned, penetrating oil, BFH to break it loose, it is a tight fit to get the old one out & the new one in.

One other note...when taking the belt off if it is not broken, take a picture or draw a diagram of where it goes.  We may all think we can remember or figure it out but I learned the hard way that I'm not as smart as I thought I was  Embarrassed
