Topic: Online places to buy alloy rims and tires in Canada? Brick and mortar stores?

I will check out TireTrends.com of course, but, you know, I'm shopping around. I am looking for 14" x 6" 4 x 100 Sport Edition D5 alloy rims for my 01 Corolla CE. I notice that in adition to TT.com ...1010tire has this rim, however, they mention UPS in the list of shippers. I used UPS once and never again due to VERY high brokerage fees. Has anybody used 1010tire to buy rims and tires in Canada? How was the experience? What about the forum sponsor TT.com ? Any others? Looking for un-biased experience and feedback. I may buy tires locally, but haven't decided yet.

I believe 1010tires.com is Canadian and located in BC.  Therefore no duty, etc.  Also, there is Carmodifier.ca in Ontario.

With the dollar back at 90 cents US you may want to at least check pricing from tirerack.com . If nothing else they give you a total that includes shipping,brokerage,tax/duty etc etc (ie landed at your door in Canada). The higher cost of freight on alloys may make them uncompetitive but it's worth a look. The last time I bought tires they were still cheaper than any Canadian supplier I could find.

I bought my 17 inch rims and tires from carmodifier canada. No duty. Was cheaper (especially on the rims) than local. Showed up mounted road force balanced perfect. I'd consider them again.

Do check locally. My last set of tires General UHPs was cheaper on sale from Canadian Tire than any online place at the time.

Your credit card will be charged in Canadian currency and the TOTAL you see on a check out page will be the TOTAL you pay for this purchase. In most cases, there is only one tax to pay - GST, unless you are in B.C. or Maritime provinces.

Thanks for all the advice folks. I have since found out the full scoop from 1010tires regardin fees for Canadians. I got a price and full quote for the rims. I'm just waiting to hear about rims with tires installed and balanced. Trouble is, the Sport Edition D5 is on back-order 4 to 8 weeks. I need a couple weeks to round up the cash, but was hoping to get them sooner than 4-8 weeks.

Tires do go on sale at CT. I was considering the CT branded General Evertrek HP vs the General Altimax HP...but, I'm not sure which one I want. They are similar. The Altimax does have a higher UTQG rating. The Altimax RT and Evertrek RT are nice too, but neither are offered in the size I'm looking at. I may have to shod my steelies with used rubber for now and wait until later this year. With my snow/winter tires off, I can sell the steelies with rubber and keep looking for a set of Civic HX or Prius rims to put the winter tires on.

I'll check out the carmodifier link.

I was able to negotiate with a local tire dealer for good prices on two set of tires. Only $10 more per tire than the online prices (no shipping). When factoring in the shipping, and one stop shopping and installation, I went with the local guys.

Check with local dealers as well.

They deliver to my doorstep. Local enough for me.   If supply is hard to find locally then the big T Rack may be the place to go. 1010 MAN.

I guess my edit to this thread would now be that I'm looking for brick and mortar stores in Toronto and/or durham region. 4 to 8 weeks back-order for Sport Edition D5 from 1010tire. If I found a place locally, I could have a chance of finding a set in stock. Store in Toronto. There must be a bunch of stores in Toronto that carry rims/wheels and one of them must carry Sport Edition, and maybe they have a set of D5's in 14" ...I can only hope...

I repeat. Check to see if tire rack has them. If they do you will have them in a matter of days.

Edit: Looks like they only got 2  @ $76 a piece and the dollar is going towards par...

If TireRack does not have them, no one will. This is their own house brand. Everyone gets them from TireRack BTW.

Yeah, I know. I checked with tirerack first and they had 3. 1010tire has pretty good pricing too compared to the tirerack pricing. I think I may be screwed time wise. 4 to 8 weeks may be all I'm left with.

Why not look for another wheel, or at least upgrade to 15" tires/wheels. This will give you way more options. It's very hard to find aftermarket wheels in 14" these days.

I have. 15" is ok, but...14" rima dn tire is lighter, cheaper and simpler. I don't mind waiting.

This is what i did... it was cheaper to buy from tiretrack and ship to Halifax than it was to buy locally /domestically.
