Hi I need a set of 4 all seasons tires. I want the most inexpensive tires money can buy and equally good quality for a GMC Safari van. I don't want to put a lot of money in to the mini-van. Any recommendations?

Hankook/Kumho/General have cheap tires that for the most part are not garbage. |

I had Khumos on my Civic and was very happy with them. You can get Goodyear Allegras or the like for pretty cheap, but they're pretty crummy tires.
Keep in mind, the tires are the only part of your van that touches the road. Probably not something you want to cheap out on, frankly. |

+1 to that. Tires are probably one of the worst places to be cheap. |

+1 on the Nexen recommendation. I put a set on the Focus a few months ago. So far so good. They were about $20 less per tire (installed) than the AW+ from Crappy Tire. The ones I bought at H rated. |

Try the Falken ZE912 tires. Great All-Season tire. http://www.1010tires.com/tire.asp?tirebrand=Falken&tiremodel=Ziex+ZE%2D912 |

I've had both Falken and Kumho tires, and think that they are excellent value. I used to be a tire brand snob, buying only Michelin or Bridgestone, but after trying some lower priced alternatives, I think that the other have made huge gains in terms of quality.
I've heard nothing but bad things about non-performance Goodyear tires, so I won't consider them. |

Hi folks
New here and I too am in the market though I'm looking to go mid-price and not total inexpensive
I'm leaning strongly towards some GY Wrangler RT/S (265/70/R16) because that's what's been on the truck (2004 dodge dakota 4x4 quad cab) since I got it and I've been pretty darn happy with them. I def am going for all-season. Crappy tire will put them on, balance and all for $876.71 (188 plus gst per tire). Another place will do it for $938 (219 plus gst per tire) but that will include a 4 wheel alignment.
I'm taking a cross country road trip w/ my kids at the beginnin of July and was considering waiting till I get to the U.S. to get my tires and thereby save a little $$ but it occurred to me that I would have trouble with warranties, service, etc...if/when the need arise.
Anyone have any info on good deals, install specials, etc.. in Edmonton, AB? Any rlevant info would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance |

Run away from the Goodyear RT/S, absolute crap. The only thing about them that is ok is the tread life. I am on my third Dodge Dakota's and can tell you that an excellent choice is the Michelin LTX M/S. This tire absolutely transforms the ride and handling of the Dakota. Michelin prices have been dropping lately so you should be able to get your size (265/70-16) for under $1000 installed. Do it. |

Michelin isn't using the mold? Is the composition the same? I have had some negative experiences with "second run" Michelin motorcycle tires when they changed the location of manufacture from Spain to Thailand. The mold was the same but the tire had nowhere near the same performance/wear. Considering that these LTX M/S easily perform for over 100k kms the extra cost of $400 equals out to $400s/ 100 000kms = 0.004 $/km. Considering a Dakota on a good day gets 15L/100km. fuel at $1L $15/100km = 0.15 $/km. Are the Michelins worth it? I don't know, maybee it is just the name HERCULES that gives me the shivers... |

Yeah, those were recommended and an intial quote I got was $245 per unit. If I could get them on the truck, balanced and ready to roll for under 1 g, I'd seriously consider it. But it'd be hard for me to justify at 11 or 12... I'll maybe shop around some more for a better price... Do y'all agree about buying and installing my rubber south of the border being a bad decision? Thoughts, comments? |
