If Saturn disappears and something complicated goes wrong, is an Astra similar enough to a Cobalt that a Chev dealer or an independent will be able to diagnose and fix it?

Between it's shared parts with other GM's (same engine as in a bunch of other vehicles, IIRC) and the "Right to Repair" legislation working its way through the system, I don't think fixing the Astra should be a huge burden.  It's not a super-complicated machine to fix, after all.  :)

Congrats on the purchase!  You definitely made the right choice with the Astra.  Now, per tradition,  :ttiwwp::D

Does the Astra share its 1.8 with other GMs? AFAIK it doesn't.

All GM Family II engines (i.e Astra, Cobalt, etc) are the same basic design/construction. The only difference is displacement.

Hey guys

I picked the car up on friday - everything went VERY smooth and I have to give my thanks to  the sales guys I worked with at the dealership.

Also thanks to all of you, Ill be sure to post some pictures as soon as I can find my old digital camera. Its a two door XR in "silversand" color. Kind of like a dull gold.. not my first choice but it is growing on me. So is the car, every time I get in it I like it more. It was the last 08 leftover at the dealership so I had no choice on color or 3dr/5dr if I wanted the huge price cut.

Back with pictures soon..

Wow, that was super quick turn around but perfect timing for the week-end. Glad to hear all went well with delivery.

Looking forward to photos. Find the 3dr a very striking design.

Enjoy it, and welcome to club Astra!  :skid:

Congratulations Zsaw!  I think you got an awesome car at a great price.  Colour choice aside, you do lose some practicality with the 3-door over the 5-door but you do also gain a lot of style.

:iagree:  I briefly considered the Astra when shopping for my new ride, mostly because of the excellent deals available on them.  LOADS of car for the money!  And while I went with the Fit and am very pleased with my decision, I feel a little pang every time I see an Astra XR 3-door.

It's a very, very nice design, and an excellent car.  :)

Sorry I missed this thread.  To answer your original question:  DUH.  And I'm a VeeDub fan.   ;D  Congrats on your purchase!  Very exciting.

When you do decide to post pics, please do so in the Show 'n' Shine section.  Or, post them here and I'll move it over there for you.
