Both dealers is Newmarket Ont are closing? :(  I grew up there, never dealt with either of them but I heard good things about Colonial Chev/Olds.  A buddy of mine bought two or three pick-ups from them and was happy with the experience.

There are a few all-in-one dealerships (Chevrolet/Pontiac/Buick/GMC) but I've only seen them in rural areas back east.  I was just wondering if Ontario (or any other provinces) had any of those?  I imagine that they will eventually all become GM superstores in a few years.

Our local GM dealer (small-town Alberta) sells Chevrolet, Pontiac, Buick & GMC. They've survived the cuts.

In Winnipeg they slipped the knife to terminated the two largest - Park P/B/GMC and Birchwood P/B/GMC

Can't say I'm sad about Birchwood; my experiences at almost every Birchwood Group dealer has been negative, to say the least.

I just read another post in thetruthaboutcars.com that GM plans to terminate another 450 North American (not clear if it's American only, or includes some more Canadian) dealers within the next 17 months. Absolute carnage. I understand wanting to close large urban dealers that are cannabilising sales from each other, but closing small town dealerships that have no competition makes no sense.
I wonder if George W. Bush was confused by "Weapons of MATH Destruction"?

Senseless.

Customers that frequented these small town GM stores did so for the same reason that ppl in other towns with a Ford or Chrysler only store frequented them, not because they were huge GM fans.  IMO, the vast majority of these customers will seek out other brands.

No matter what GM does to try to restructure, there will be unhappy people who sue.

In many ways, it would be better to go fully into bankruptcy, then all the dealers can share equally in the pain of loss, without any transition payments.

I am surprised how fast this is going. The Chevy store in Richmond is already in liquidation and the Pontiac one in Vancouver has already had the "Pontiac: names removed. Also had "Saturn Saab" added at the same time. Very strange.
