Will be closing? This week I heard of a few in the Toronto area that shocked me and my dealer is one of them.

I've heard that Brennan on Bayview, Howson on Sheppard and Marvin Starr on Eglinton will be shuttered. Brennan was where I got the Acadia and MS is huge out here.

I have not heard about any of the Chryco dealers, but Craig Hind has three in Scarborough and I'm sure one or two of them might go.

So maybe, in the name of public awareness, we can put together something. Or maybe Sir A can get a list and post it? Bow 2

I've only read about Belanger Pontiac Buick GMC in Ottawa closing. I thing that most dealers affected are not going public and the rest of the those safe are being pretty tight-lipped as well.

Really?  In the States the dealers have very little time to clear out their inventory before their contracts expire - how long do Canadian dealers have before they're no longer franchisees?

OK, so who's publicly admitted they're out in Kingston then?

Both of the GM dealers here in Vernon went public right after the news about the impending closures and said they were safe. I guess that's a good thing at least for now, but I don't quite understand it. Vernon apparently isn't even big enough to support a Kia dealership which went -up months ago, so how do they figure we can keep two large GM dealers going? Hell, you can't even buy a Mazda here.

There has been a list floating around the internet, but I'm told by someone who knows, that it isn't accurate.

The guys that own the Saturn dealer in Aylmer have decided to go ahead and close way before the actual death of the brand... and guess who's coming in to replace them? Kia! That's just perfect for me! They'll be like 5 minutes away from my home and I won't have to go to Gatineau for services anymore!  Grin

I saw a list on a Camaro forum for eastern Canada. From what I have seen on various forums the GTA closings seem pretty accurate.

So 91 0f 464 dealers in Canada are safe? How does the list work?

Seems like all the focus and interest is in GM dealers. Over at the 'other' government financed company nothing. Strange given they too have an oversupply of both product and dealers.

I don't think anyone cares about Chrysler anymore at this point... There's just no hope for them. At least we've seen some interesting products from GM in recent months...

I think the 'closing' list is a collection of dealers who have received the 'bad letter' from GM.  Not sure how the 'safe' list is compiled.

How solid is that 240 number?  I ask because I found an article stating 42% or about 300 dealers will close, published on the same day that another article announced the figure of 240:

300 will close:   (May 21, 2009)
http://www.motorauthority.com/gm-to-close-42-of-canadian-dealer-network.html

240 will close:   (May 21, 2009)
http://www.canada.com/Business/story.html?id=1615907

Regardless of the national figure, it looks like about 70 dealers will close here in Quebec:

I know of four in my area...Mostly in smaller towns outside of Windsor.  Obviously the Pontiac dealer in Windsor was one of them...
