Don't forget Bimmers require more maintenance than Hondas and Toyotas.

The first four years are free.

You said you like to keep your cars long. An indie would help after those 4 years.

Unless you are doing 20,000 kms per year you get 3 oil changes and one kick of the tires free.
If you think changing the oil every 24,000 kms is not quite often enough then there is a still a maintenance cost.   The BIG service, Inspection II is arranged to fall just after the end of the warranty.
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

If you have Indy do Inspection II it no big deal it is at 100,000
Plugs are change, gas filter, but on a Subby you have already change these iteams once already and now you need to change the time belt which the BMW does not need

Should not be a problem for me, my niece's husband worked as a tech at a BMW dealer for many years and now has his own shop on the east side. Does quite well at it, too. I have never used a dealer for service on any of my cars.
