2010 Equinox: 6.1L/100 km
« on: May 07, 2009, 10:41:20 am »
Given how much better the FE number is than its competitors it deserves its own thread:

2009 CrV  2.4 166 hp - 7.3 l/100km hwy fwd
2009 Rav4 2.5 179 hp - 7.2 l/100km hwy fwd
2010 Equinox 2.4 182 hp - 6.1 l/100km hwy fwd

2010 Chevrolet Equinox Redefines The Segment-Best: Better Fuel Economy and More For The Money Than The Competition

Oshawa, Ontario (May 6, 2009) – Available at Chevrolet dealers this summer, the new 2010 Equinox delivers the best highway fuel consumption of any vehicle in its segment, along with safety, comfort and quietness and offers an impressive range of features, all at a starting MSRP of just $25,995.

Combining the fuel economy of a sedan and the utility of a crossover, the 2010 next generation Equinox offers the choice of two fuel-efficient direct injection engines – a 2.4L I4 and a 3.0L V6, both paired with 6-speed automatic transmissions. The 2.4L-equipped Equinox delivers a segment-best 6.1L/100 km in highway driving, placing it well in front of the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CRV.  The Equinox also has a range of up to 1,164 km’s on a single tank of gas, meaning fewer fill-ups for customers.

“With its contemporary styling, best-in-segment fuel economy, industry-leading coverage and aggressive price, the Equinox leaves the competition behind,” said Marc Comeau, vice president of sales, service and marketing for GM of Canada.  “Engineered in Oshawa and built at the CAMI plant in Ingersoll, Ontario, the Equinox is definitely a vehicle that customers can embrace as exceptional Canadian value.”

The 2010 Equinox is available in front- and all-wheel-drive and comes with a host of standard features including:

·         Advanced, low-risk deployment front air bags

·         Front-seat-mounted pelvic/thorax side air bags

·         Two-row head curtain air bags

·         Four-wheel disc brakes

·         StabiliTrak electronic stability control, traction control and rollover mitigation

·         OnStar

·         One-touch electronic child-safety door lockout switch

·         Tilt and telescoping steering wheel

·         Driver seat power height adjustment and power lumbar

·         Sliding adjustable rear seat

·         A wide range of storage options, including laptop-capable centre console

·         Laminated glass and extensive sound mitigation

·         17” aluminum wheels

The Equinox offers a surprising range of available features including touch-screen navigation system with a 40 GB hard drive which can be used for audio storage and playback; live audio pause and resume functionality.  Equinox also ups the ante with segment-first options, including a programmable power liftgate, rearview vision camera system, and dual rear seatback entertainment system.

Pricing for the well-equipped LS model starts at an MSRP of $25,995 (FWD) and $27,605 (AWD) and ranges up to the top of the line LTZ models which start at $33,460 (FWD) and $35,070 (AWD).

General Motors of Canada (GMCL) is headquartered in Oshawa Ontario and employs 12,000 people nationwide.  GM of Canada manufactures vehicles, vehicle powertrains, and markets the full range of General Motors vehicles and related services through approximately 700 dealerships and retailers across Canada.

blah blah blah Toyota blah blah blah I feel your pain; you've got a GM, it's worth squat and you owe on it.

Dude, if the displacment is EXACT, it's not "all new".  The intake is different, the VVT is now on both sets of valves  In the automotive world "all new" often means somewhat different

That's unreal - 46.3mpg! (if I've done that right?)

Hopefully they've managed to do that and keep the transmission from hunting on the slightest highway grade. If so, fantastic work!

Right... 6.1L/100 based on GM's testing and press release. But in the real world....?

The Diesel Jetta wagon is 5.9 l/100 on the hwy on the US EPA site
SO if the 6.1 l/100km is using the same testing method as the EPA those are really go numbers

The highway fuel consumption figure is not particularly meaningful without the city fuel consumption.  I am sure that the vast majority of Canadian drivers do the majority of their driving in the city.

But all the important Canadians live in rural areas and do most of their driving on the hwy ;D

6.1L is hard to believe for a vehicle of that size, but its got a 6spd auto and a DI engine. Kudos to GM, just try to make them reliable.

One day my Grand Am was loosing coolant like it was shot by Nazis, I barely landed got it to the garage. It was something plastic that fell apart because its gasket was never put in properly. The rest was very reliable though. First year GM models are said to be full of surprises however.

Every manufacturers first year models are full of surprises. Without exception.

I will withhold judgment until someone does some real world numbers, not PR/government numbers.  If these hold up, in relation to its competitors, then well done to GM.

 :iagree:

It's the kind of stuff GM needs, so let's hope it's the real deal.

Years ago I was at a Mercedes "event" and chatted with an engineer from Germany about a few topics, one of them being the fuel economy of our E300 turbodiesel.  I wondered why our Mercedes easily bested the posted EPA/TC numbers and the other brands we'd owned could only match them and only with some pretty careful driving.  He replied:

"We chose the gear ratios and engine specifications (FI mapping, cam profile, etc...) for the maximum fuel economy and driveability in the real world of our customers and the roads they drive on and the traffic they experience, not to a government mandated test."
No place I'd rather be...

But MB can afford to do this.

I saw a used Liberty in Nelson last year, non-diesel, that the dealer was advertising at 41 mpg.  Anyone can play with numbers when it comes to PR, I just hope that GM has it right and can make some hay with it.

I had my fair share. Touch wood. Let me say that again just in case. Touch Wood. This used 3 grand Astro I'm driving hasn't gone wrong. Mind you it does have over 4 grands worth of fixing. Anyway it just drives and brakes just awful and drinks petrol. Like a teenager drinks coca cola. I also wonder who hell did they employed to come up with the seat position.
