2005 X-Trail Wheel Bearing Issues
« on: May 03, 2009, 12:27:41 pm »
 Hello All!

We've replaced the right rear wheel bearing, under warranty, at 52,000km. Then replaced the left rear bearing, on our dime(!), at 66,000km.
We are now forced to replace the right rear again, on our dime, after only 14,000km!
We are hoping our dealer will assist us with the replacement we have paid for, we'll let you know. I am wondering if anyone else has had to deal with this issue or have had a similar experience with their X-Trail?

The right rear bearing replacement should be covered for 1 year or 20K km.  If you get stuck with paying for it yourself get an aftermarket (non OEM/Nissan) bearing.

It's not unheard of that OEM bearing in some vehicles in certain years are lousy.

I would complain loud and hard about how the bearing lasted only 14K.  That's ridiculous!  It's either a defective part or faulty installation.

Faulty rear wheel bearings were a common early Forester problem, and they are damned expensive, and many owners have been frustrated by repeated failures.  Thankfully, on-the-ball dealers worked with Subaru to help out owners and updated parts seemed to have solved the problem.  You'll need to communicate with Nissan and the dealer to make sure this is resolved.  Good luck.
