Hmmmm.....the area where the photo says "Small rust spots" is close to the underside of the bumper.  That's an area that would be hit by road debris, stones, etc as you drive.  As soon as you have even the smallest perforation of the chrome, the rust comes.  Not sure if this is actually an issue or not??

When I had my 1997 F-150 you may recall (or not) that the exhaust pipe exited just in front of the passenger rear wheel.  They found out that the exhaust fumes corroded the rim and the lugs.  My rim and lugs were replaced under warranty and the exhaust pipe was routed to behind the wheel under a silent recall.

**Edit..I just ran over to the neighbours 2006 Chevy pick up, and he also has small pitting/rust on the underside rear bumper area.  So if this is caused by rock chips, and then road salt getting to where the rocks have chipped, I guess the only way to fix it is to have thicker or hard chrome??**
How fast is my Supra?  I sh*t on Cessnas from a roll....

That way I think some people make to big of a deal when they see rust.
Rust happens everyday, compared to the 70's rust today is minor

It's hard to accept rust on the body panels and trim on a brand new car/truck of any manufacturer, especially if there is no trace of impact (unknown in this particular case).

Are some people making to big of a deal about this

It's easily solved.  What ppl need to do is get off their bums and hit the road and personally inspect Tundras in areas that are of concern to them and stop reading morons as captioned below.

Listen to this one:

cheryl maurer Said in July 31st, 2008 @11:49 am  Well, I just got the run around. Toyota will not stand by my truck under warranty despite the fact that this is a well known problem. I unfortunately tapped my bumper into something - creating a very slight indentation with no structural failure of the materials - just a minor blemish - and as a result I am being told it is not under warranty.

These are the ppl that post on these sites.  They're facking nuts.  :)

Yup rocks happen, esp. on trucks. How many of these complainers have proper mud flaps installed on all 4 wheels of their trucks? Road debris kick-up seems to hammer most truck rear bumpers.

Anyone who doesn't belive Toyota could have a rusty bumper problem should look at the rear bumpers on earlier generation 4Runners.

Wow, YET another problem with the Tundra.  Even if it is minor, it shows how cheap the truck is.  A friend of mine owns one of these pieces of :censor:, and there's a rattle that comes from the dash on the passenger's side.  The rattle only happens when you have the fan on.  For having being in one, I am really disappointed by this truck.  It is cheap, too big, fragile, and its mileage is unacceptable.  I'm not a Chevy guy, but the Silverado is much better in possibly any way.

If you really want an eye opener, crawl under one. I don't care what Toyota rates the towing capacity at, I'd be concerned hauling a utility trailer with a frame that light. We had an 09 Tundra on a hoist next to the boss' old Ranger, his 94 Ranger has a heavier frame under it.
