Snows came off on Monday along with completing the drive clean test. Thursday after work I'm putting in a new set of plugs, wires and coils. Never changed this stuff on a rotary before but they say it's a 20 minute job. We'll see. I keep thinking I need 6 of everything but it's actually only four.
Still looks good IMHO after five years of ownership.

Indeed... you've done a good job of keeping her looking sharp.  I've always thought the subtle body kit bits look really sharp on your car (and I'm not usually one to like those sort of things).

Thumbs up

The RX8's design will stand up against the test of time for sure. Looks great Railton! I also second GD's opinion on the body kit, it definitely works on your RX8.

Sandals?  NONONONONONONO!!!  I was skiing on Monday!  I refuse to let winter go...

You need to move to the South of France.  Skiing in the morning, surfing in the afternoon.  And a nice, curvy road in between.

Could life get much better?

The RX8 looks great, Railton.  Glad you're still enjoying it after five years!  I guess you made the right choice, eh? Cheesy

Well done T! I am a week behind in the spring clean up and summer sticky bolt on…. Spending too much time at the driving range working on swing mechanics.

OK, so changing the plugs, wires and coils in an RX-8 is more than 20 minutes. Count on 2 hours.

Place wheel chocks
Jack up car
Place jack stands
Remove left front wheel
Remove engine cover
Remove air box (to get at the coils) and disconnect air box solenoid
Remove four plugs (13/16 socket with long extension and swivel)
Install four new plugs (don't forget the anti-seize and leading plugs to leading ports, trailing plugs to trailing ports)
Note: notice that trailing plug ports have small 0.125" dia. hole for spark to travel through compared to leading plug holes that look normal)
Remove four old coils (one 10mm nut for each)
Install four new coils (don't forget dielectric grease on contacts, note: mounted leading 1, trailing 1, leading 2, trailing 2)
Install four new wires (checking for correct length and play of wires and apply dielectric grease on plug contacts)
Check and check again.
Re-install air box and air box solenoid (cute gizmo that opens stock CAI over 5000 RPM)
Re-install engine cover
Install left front wheel
Remove jack stands
Lower car till wheel touches ground slightly.
Torque wheel nuts
Lower car remaining amount
Remove wheel chocks
Insert key
Close eyes
Start car
Exhale
Road test
Drink beer

Of interest; Those trailing plugs are just there to clean up the spent fuel that the leading plugs fail to burn. Apparently most of the power is made by the leading plugs.
Interesting engine.
Also of note; Coils were purchased for $25US/Coil (incuding free shipping) compared to Canadian dealer cost of $103CAD/coil, plugs and 8.65mm wires cost me $160US (incuding free shipping), also purchased from the states compared to $280 CAD for Canadian dealer price for plugs and standard wires.
All this work would have cost me well over $1000.00 at the Mazda dealer to have done compared to me paying ~$260 US and my time.

Just a wheel and airbox?  Child's play!  Intake manifold has to come off for the Escape.  Those stupid rubber band gaskets are incredibly expensive from the dealer, as well.  I think book time for spark plugs is around the four-hour mark.  Shocked

By the way, for anyone with an Escape, I have a guide on how to do it without removing the manifold.  PM me.

Anyone that waits till 160k to change his plugs is a misfiring that should have his RX-8 taken away.
