Bingo.

Hard on the clutch, drivetrain and motor mounts I'm sure.

Of course after you've let off of the clutch at that 25% you take off faster than planned.  So you let off of the throttle to slow down.  This causes the pedal to stick again and when you re-apply the gas you're at 25% all over again.  Buck-city.

You can get around it by really feathering the clutch, but that isn't ideal.

Curious question no one seemed to ask, does this car have drive-by-wire on it? If so , clean the throttle body, it will be cheaper than replacing the throttle body because the butterfly motor went south.

I had the Mazda3 at the dealer for 4 years/96km service (the car is 4 years old now, but it only has 63K) and they recommended to do the "throttle body" cleaning (about $130 job). I declined the service for now until I figure out what is this all about. The manufacturer maintenance schedule doesn't mention this service item.
Can anyone help with an explanation? Is this a legitimate service apart from a money making service for the dealer?
Thanks in advance.

It's complete nonsense unless you participate in desert rally with that Mazda :D
