From what I read Chrysler already takes 60 days to pay.

Keep dreaming. In regular order parts delivery it may be 60 days, but that is more like  net 120 from PPAP approval for tooling and equipment. PPAP approval can come anywhere from 30 days to 36 months after you delivery the tool. Try running a business based on those terms.

I'm assuming that this was not always the case.....being married to a specific industry or chasing big ticket jobs where that sort of BS takes place will continue as long as people keep running to 'win' it.   :P

Can't complain about the terms if you go into it eyes wide open and no one does anything to change it, unfortunately.

There isn't much you can do about it with out being collusive as long as there is someone willing to prostitute themselves for some work.....and with automotive margins there seemed to always be someone.
I don't that its fair to paint them all as "prostituting" themselves.

If you start out with company XX as one of your customers paying in 30 days and they become a main customer who you depend on they have got you. Its not like you can just switch over all your part dies or whatever to find a new customer at new cost. Its the changing of the terms etc that comes along after the intial "fair" dealings that gets you

Many businesses are now like this. Run by procurment departments who get bonues simply for squeezing out discounts and reducing costs. We deal with it all the time. At some point you squeeze the margins so much that its not not profitable for ANYONE to do business with you or those that do need to squeeze their own costs so much that the product becomes inferior and then you rally aren't any farther ahead.

There was a too big to fail mentaility with the pensions. There was a we are so big that you have to let us disctate prices and terms. Guess what. You are not the big anymore.
