Lease take-over
« on: April 14, 2009, 12:40:59 pm »
I am considering finding a lease take-over with less than a year left before the car goes back.
I was wondering what steps I can take to ensure I won't be hit with a huge bill on return, as well as what the average fee is for the lease transfer.

If the car is a few hours away, can I make the current leasor have the vehicle inspected by the dealership to say that there is no abnormal damage? That would make me much more confident in doing a lease-takeover.

Any other suggestions / advice would be great, as I've never done this before..

the lease transfer fee will depend on the model of car.  I've transfered leases a couple of times and GM's fee is about $470 including tax and from memory, Mazda was $350 or something.

As far as returning the vehicle, you may have to pay any repair fees or excessive wear and tear items (if the lease doesn't have some extended 'wear and tear' coverage protection) or you'd have to pay for any additional KM's above what is covered in the lease.

Having it inspected would be a good idea, get everything written down as well so you have something to show just in case you bring it back and they try to surprise you with more charges.

Would this actually make a difference? Since the lease-end inspection is done (usually) by a third party, they would not care how or when the damage occurred and the person returning the vehicle would be responsible for everything.

Yes, I am actually going through Leasebusters. I have a line on an 06 Jetta with a ton of KMs remaining..

Problem is, it is a bit of a drive away. So I want some sort of gaurantee that as of YET there is no big damage I would be responsible for. So Im thinking, I could ask the guy to bring it to the dealership and have it inspected for major dings or scratches, and have them sign off on it being OK up til this point? I would be responsible for ANYTHING wrong with the car when I bring it in, so I want to make sure it is fine when I take over the lease.

no idea if it would make a difference but it couldn't hurt to have something to show in the event the dealer wants to try and rip you off for bogus repairs.
