Used 2004 G35 Coupe
« on: April 04, 2009, 08:00:31 pm »
My cousin is interested in purchasing a used G35 coupe, price in the low 20's. There were many recalls for this vehicle, correct? And service bulletins. The Brembo brakes had issues, which is why later models didn't offer them anymore?

Gas mileage is poor, and chances are, these vehicles were abused.

Any other input on the car?
Mine: 2004 Acura TSX
Family: 2005 Honda Odyssey EX, 2006 BMW 330i

A coworker just bought a 2005 for 21k. The 05 interior is a bit nicer.
I helped someone with an 04 a few years ago and the brake job was actually really straightforward but the original quote from the dealer was scary.
The other thing I remember from the early years was that there were some complaints of early front tire wear, but nowhere near as bad as on the 350z.
The G35 is a car I would seriously consider as a used buy if I were in the market for a touring coupe.

Hmm I see.

He wants an 05', 6MT...hes searching Infiniti dealerships now, since he thinks its the safest bet, instead of looking on sketchy used dealership lots.

As a current Infiniti owner, let him know parts prices are expensive(a lot of them dealer only), Most Infiniti models have Infiniti specific parts which are not shared with other North American Nissan vehicles and some models have almost dealer specialized servicing. I frequent a Nissan/Infiniti forum, and their are quite a few people who have "buyers remorse" over servicing and parts expenses. I think that's one of the reason you find these cars fairly cheap on the used market, a lot of lease folks dump these cars before servicing gets exboritant.

That's the thing with used luxury cars, you can them for cheap (relatively) but they still cost a small fortune to run.

Front suspension settings is probably what ate the tires I guess.

Yup

That's what was weird about it.. as mmret guessed, "alignment issues"..

http://www.nissantireproblems.com/

From the Class Action:
Quote
The complaint alleges that these vehicles suffer from suspension and alignment defects that result in premature wear, feathering, and cupping of the front tires, resulting in "an extremely loud tire roar or tire growl, especially when the vehicle is braking, traveling on a smooth road surfaces or cruising at speeds of 30 mph or less." In addition, the complaint charges that Nissan 350z owners and lessees have been forced to replace their front tires and service their vehicle's front-end alignment more often than is reasonably expected.

And from the site related to G35
Quote
ATTENTION INFINITI G-35 DRIVERS: We are receiving an increasing number of claims for premature tire wear issues. If this problem occurs with your vehicle, we may be able to help.

Not exactly sure, but according to her, she said similar models were around the same price. I didn't have time to look for her, because of final exams.  :-\

With her extra 5% GST payment she is gonna drop 10K on that car in one year.  Lesson:  DO NOT let young ladies attend dealers with their check book or credit card.  They get hosed everytime on the used sh*t.  :'(

Just let her enjoy her new car. The price seems high to us, but it might be well worth it to her.

IMO its high to me...I have no idea how the front tires passed safety. Rear tires are new though.

Actually, shes 18 years old, and her dad bought it for her to drive to Uni... :P SO, I guess hes not an experienced bargainer. Its funny how her brother (my age, soon to be 20) drives a 05' Corolla and I drive a Protege5, which are both auto. We both suck at manual, especially with her coupe. She puts us to shame.  :'(

Didn't know she was online.  :)  Point is that for ppl reading this thread it's a warning on what not to do.

The trader has 18 private ads and 139 dealer ads for 2003/2004 coupes.  That's a sh*t load for this type of vehicle.
