2009 Audi A6 3.0T Premium

The Fit I drove last week was a vehicle that a practical person would buy. It drives well, it is super fuel efficient and economical.  This week, let's go in the opposite direction: not too many practical-minded people have an Audi A6 on their shopping list -- unless perhaps it is the Avant station wagon version -- as the A6 appeals more to one's senses and desires than their needs.  More ...

If you want more of a sporty car, you can't go wrong with the bimmer. The Audi A6 is more of a luxury car instead.

It damned well better be, for $72k..  have you seen the back seat of this?  uncomfortable and there are cheap plastics hidden just a fingertips away.

although, front dash and console are some fine examples for tactile feedback buttons and controls, i don't like this car...

Yep, I spent quite some time in this car at the Auto Show. I saw plastic, but not cheap. Maybe I missed what you noticed, but you didn't mention where that cheap plastic was anyway. I did not find the rear room particularly large at all, but the seats were comfortable.
The Euro cars are cup-holder and storage challenged though, but I'd easily overlook that for the rest of good things. The attention to detail is notable in this car, and in the Audis in general. Are they perfect? No, but no car is.

My in-laws had a A6 Avant (station wagon) Nicest car I ever rode in. Leather to die for BUT  The car left them on the side of the road at least 3 times.  It cost him thousands just to keep it running after the warrenty was up.  He traded it on a Camry, not nearly as nice but it runs.  (he got nothing for it as a trade, it was in mint condition).
A friend who drives Audi's tells me that few people buy then.  They lease them for 4 years.  VW really has to work on their reliablity.

$74,000 eh?  No thanks.  I'll take Lincolns MKS at $52,000 with AWD and better reliability

It's a shame that poor reliabililty is still a VW problem after so many years.  I experienced it with my '65 Bug, my '78 Rabbit and my '85 Golf, all bought new. Now an old f..., I drive a stripper '06 Dodge Caravan, the third new Caravan I have bought. I kept one for 12 years.  All have been reliable and maintenance has been inexpensive.

I find VW's have pretty decent cupholders but Audi's don't. Audi's are improving in that area though with their newest cars such as the new A4 and Q5. The problem is that Audi puts so many buttons on the centre console instead of the dash leaving not much room for cupholders and cubbies.  The VW/Audi cupholders that slide out of the rear arm rest are the best rear arm rest cupholders I've experienced. They can hold a wide range of cup sizes and they have strong cinchers that hold the cups in place really well.

I believe the current generation A6 has done quite well where reliability is concerned (and the A8 too). Have seen a few surveys which showed great improvement in some cases going so far as nearing/a tie with Lexus. (can't find any articles so perhaps I'm dreaming there).

I quite like the A6 and A6 Avant. In previous generations I did not find they were anywhere up to par with the E-Class and 5-Series, but now they're on equal footing depending what you're looking for in a car.

Have to mention those S-Line wheels are hot!

This car needs update. I'm sure it drives great. But IMO. It needs to be redesigned. It is kind of how I feel about Porsches. Do something radical.  Smiley

Lease, don't buy.

Have a look on Autohound - you'll see 4 year old models now selling for low mid-20s / high teens. Audi should have left this model in Europe.

There was a thread about a year back about an A6 owner who couldn't find a buyer for his 6-7 year old model.
