And here we go once again on bashing VW Audi reliability...
I'd say Audi was doing the bashing in the scenario below - bashing the good faith and $$ invested by their customer: My in-laws had a A6 Avant (station wagon) Nicest car I ever rode in. Leather to die for BUT The car left them on the side of the road at least 3 times. It cost him thousands just to keep it running after the warrenty was up. He traded it on a Camry, not nearly as nice but it runs. (he got nothing for it as a trade, it was in mint condition). A friend who drives Audi's tells me that few people buy then. They lease them for 4 years. VW really has to work on their reliablity.

Who cares about Audi's reliability? If you have to think about reliability when buying a car, you obviously can't afford an Audi, so just stick with your dime-a-dozen Hyundai's and Toyota's.
The type of person who can afford Audi doesn't worry about repair costs or reliability. He wants pure driving pleasure, at any cost.
That's why Lexus will never achieve the status of MB or Audi. They focus way too much on reliability, and forgot about luxury and the driving experience.

Yes its such a spectacular and difficult achievement being able to afford a 70K car... |

Before I bought my BMW, in fall 2002, I really would have bought an A6. But, no standard transmission of course and after optioning a bit too expensive then. A guy I worked with had a cpo A6 wagon a year or so later and it was a great car... normal amount of German car niggles but nothing major went wrong in its 4th,5th and 6th years... he still has it into its 9th year...next time I see him I'll ask about it. |

This is funny, but since Wing quoted me in his blog, let me tell you that, while I already stated that I love Audis and BMWs and the cup-holder thing is just a side note that wouldn't prevent me in any way to buy one if I could really afford it, I also look for the practical things in the car. The cup holders are not only useful for aTimmy in your way to work (I don’t do that and I don’t eat, drink or smoke in my cars), but for a bottle of water too. Rich people have young kids too and when you travel with them in the car you should have a bottle of water handy. Now, if you want a bottle of water for you too, where are you going to put it? On the seat? On the floor? What if you have passengers in the car too? Note that the A6, doesn't even have bottle holders in the doors. If you drive from Toronto to Montreal for example and you are in a hurry, you might not want to stop to a "nice" coffee shop off the road and enjoy a fine coffee... Especially with a nice car like this, I wouldn't want my passengers to hold a coffee in their hand while the car is in motion. Accidents could happen... Again, not an issue just an observation.

Isn't there like a fancy slide-out cupholder hidden somewhere in the dash? |

I have two Audi's. One is 23 years old (my daily driver) and the other is 19 years old. Other than normal maintenance (cars are machines and things wear out), I've never had a problem. Don't talk to me about reliability. |

Why would you judge a 2009 car by the 1985 standards? Did you have iPod interface in 1985? BTW: Did you have 500 ml plastic water bottles in '85? |

Regrettably representative of the attitude of more than a few Audi drivers. Your sample of ONE is staggering.
My point is that it is hardly "bashing" to point to specific examples of horrible Audi reliability. If you would like to read more than one example, just go to the moan and whine section. |

IDK, this or a 535xi? Tough choice. Let us know how the new engine feels. Just for fun, same question with a twist. M5 or RS6? |

... People with more money than brains tends to think that way. I remember seeing a tow truck driver trying to put an NEW S6 onto a flatbed, in a Home Depot parking lot, he was on the cel phone, trying to get help. The car apprently is too low, cannot get it onto the ramp. ... 1 hour later, after finish shopping, the tow truck driver was still on the phone, the owners family with even 'longer faces' ... Good thing it was -40C out that day, only -10C or so. "Rich people" can afford warmer and luxurous coats, too, I take it. |

Maybe up in the great white north the A6 is a different lifestyle but here in Schaumburg, IL cars in the mid-size premium class (A6, 5-series, E-class, GS) are everywhere and it's not like the drivers aren't sipping their morning coffee on the way to the office. I've seen plenty in drive-thru duty too; the kids have got to eat, after all. All of this is to say that the lack of cupholders IS relevant, even in an expensive luxury sedan.
Though I do get some interesting reactions in drive-thrus in my bright red TSX :-)

I found 1. So now there's 2. Anything else you might want to add? Just that I hope you now understand that it's not "bashing" a car to point to specific examples of poor reliability. Did you read the one about the guy whose father's car spent the better part of three weeks in the shop for a single repair? Hey, you asked. Jaeger |
