We were discussing MSRP.

No, you were telling us what you could buy the car for...

Quote
You can get a Genesis Coupe out the door for about $26K.

Obviously, you added something, presumably taxes, to the MSRP of $24,495 to come up with your otd figure of $26K. Unfortunately you forgot all about the freight charge. Now you could've just looked on Hyundai's web site to see the real price (as I did) but instead you've tried to play some semantics game over the meaning of MSRP. Perhaps at this point you should just try to blame your error on the salesperson that you believed without question and leave it at that.

edit: I see you've already done that.

Well yea...that's why I said I need to re-check her numbers...since they don't jive.

On her card it says "$26,450 OTD"

I do have to re-check the numbers our saleswoman told us though.....they don't jive with MSRP, freight, tax, anything.....Must be the typical smoke and mirrors salesperson thing where you need a crystal ball to figure it out...

I think we will have to disagree.  I see consistency in the cabin.  generous proportions and simplicity with flowing lines.
lack of real wood trim was a serious over-sight on Hyundai's part, but other than that, it looks like what it is.  simple elegant front cabin

The overall shape, lines, and flow are fine.  After all they are going for the Mercedes S-Class look.

It just all falls apart when you take a closer look.  We'll start off with the look of the steering wheel.  That deep dish blobbular look to the spokes.  The gamepad directional buttons and then the 3 below it floating in space with rounded corners screams cheap.

Moving on to the shape of the vents.  Their shape loosely follows the outlines of whatever is around them, but they don't contribute to the overall detailing at all.  They look like after thoughts.  Okay we need vents, take the area around it, offset inside by 1 cm, and that's the shape of the vent.

On to the centre console with a big swath of aluminum colour area.  Aluminum screams technology you know.  Once again it's shape is a wishy-washy blobbular kinda of round half circle thing.  Then we get to the controls.  Those awful stereo controls again in some blobbular shape.  They don't look like high end hi-fi, more like youthy boombox.  Same thing once we get to the aluminum around the shifter.  And what's with the i-drive clone, again?

etc. etc...

The high level idea is good.  I can see what they're trying to accomplish.  But down at execution level you see their inexperience.  When it comes to expensive hardware, it's all in the little nit-picky details.

G37 looks to be a fantastic car, and very roomy for its compact-ish outward look.   But I have NO idea where you could say G is "generation" ahead...
As per the above explanation.  In terms of interior styling / design / excution, the Genesis is a few generations behind.  It would've looked new in 2002.  But we have moved on.

Hmm...  You gotta admit.  Design is a subjective thing

Agreed  :)

Take a look at the behind of the new E class and the Genesis ;). You'd be surprised to see who's copying who.

One downside that I see across the whole Genesis line is that you can get any interior you want as long as it's black.  >:(.  I am sooooo sick of black/silver/grey cars with black interiors.
My first ever GM ownership experience  can best be described as   "Fool me once...."

I guess you haven't seen the one with the brown leather dash then?

I must of missed that one. ??? I tried a bunch of colours on the "price and build page" and the only interior option that showed was "black leather"

To get an interior other than black it looks like you have to get an exterior of either blue, dark red, or beige.

I see now.
I was clicking on the colour bar instead of the little circle beside the colour name so "black" just stayed displayed as "interior colour. ::)

Were I shopping for this car, I would select colour from the inside out.  I love the look of that brown leather dahs and would grab that in a heartbeat, then select whichever exterior colour I liked best from what was available.  Though I do wish that more combos were available.

I though the Genesis was UGLY when I saw it on the cover in Motor Trend. Then I saw it in person and thought I was completely wrong. It was really impressive looking.

If I was not a GM guy I would consider buying one.
