Dealer cost on the extended warranty?
« on: March 26, 2009, 07:28:46 pm »
I know that APA and CCC among others can get you access to more detailed information re car pricing. Do these same companies have access to the dealer cost of extended warranties on new cars? For example dealer cost on the high markup item like GMPP?

If your buying a GM car like a Buick, Chevy, Pontiac(excluding the G8), GMC, Saturn (excluding Aura and Vue) or a Cadillac an extended warranty isn't worth it. There is a huge aftermarket for OEM parts and by the time something significant breaks any competent neighbourhood mechanic will be able to handle it. Save your money or better yet put that extended warranty money aside in a TFSA account. If you need it you can use it. The only GM cars I recommend extended warranties for are Saab's, Aura's, the new Vue and G8's. They have a significant number of vehicle specific parts, parts that usually fail in the 5-6 year mark and  require specialized knowledge/labour at high prices.
