New All Season Tires for a 2004 Mazda 3 GT Sport
« on: March 25, 2009, 09:41:37 am »
Hi Guys,

Wondering if you can help me out.  There are so many all-season tires out there for me to choose, just wanted to pick your brain and find out what all season tires you would suggest I get.

Here are some of the suggestions (sorry if i spelled them wrong) that i've been given.

1.  Michelin Riken
2.  Michelin Pilot Sport Exalto
3.  BF G-Force Sport
4.  Toyo Versado

What would you suggest?  I drive about 20,000 - 24,000 KM per year and mainly city driving.  I would say about 4 months of the year I switch to my winter tires.  I was able to squeeze out 5 years with the original tires it came with but they were horrible!!!  A bit of snow and slow speed and I skidded out and screwed up my alignment.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I have the G-Force Sport A/S's on my P5 and like them a lot.  They have a 400 treadwear rating so they should last reasonably long.  They're W (I think) rated so their sidewall is a little stiff, but the trade off is sharp handling.

The toyo isn't in the same class as the Pilot Exalto and the BFG.   It is generally recommended your replacement tires have the same speed rating as the OEM tires.  The toyo equivalent would be the Proxes4 (outstanding tire, but mine lasted 50,000 km) or Proxes TPT.

Call around for prices on the BFG vs. the Michelin Exalto.  If they're comparable go with the Michelin, otherwise the BFG's are great.

I've never heard of the Riken so I can't comment.

The Goodyear Eagle RS-As on my 2007 Mazda3 Sport GT are worn to within 2/32" of their treadwear indicators and they've only got (maybe) 22,000 km on them since I have a separate set of winter tires on rims.  I won't be buying them again!

I liked the BF Goodrich G-Force Sports when I had them on my CRX.  I might think about purchasing a set for my Mazda3, probably next summer.

The Toyo Versado wil be the best choice if you are looking for a good wet and dry performance tire with a nice quiet ride.

What a timely post, I was just about to ask the same for my 2005 Mazda 3 sport.

If money were not a factor I would buy the Michelin Pilot Sport Exalto's. Rated at or near the top in both Consumer Reports and Tire Rack surveys. I think they run about $225 a tire.

However money is a factor. I looking for the best comprimise between price and quality. Bang for the buck......

I guy I know at Costco says the BF Goodrich offer the best bang for the buck. He has the BFGoodrich G Force sports on his car and he loves them. They were about $150 installed (plus tax) at Costco. These tires only have a 340 tread wear rating. I also read some reviews complaining about a lot of balancing problems.

I am leaning towards BFGoodrich G Force Super Sports A/S because they have 400 treadwear rating. They cost about $10 more per tire.

They may not be the best tire but I also do not want to spend $225 per tire.

I do not need a high performance tire. I just want a quiet comfortable ride with good tread life. I hope I am not making a mistake with the BFGoodrich G Force Super Sports A/S. I am worried they are too aggressive and hard riding. I am booked to get them tomorrow.

Not much info on the Michelin Rikens. Funny my mechanic just said today I lot of people are getting them.

Can also get General Exclaim UHP's at Crappy Tire right now for about $130 plus installation & tax.

I am going nuts because the more reviews I read the more confused I get.

After reading more reviews I may break down and get the very highly rated Michelin Pilot Sport Exalto's.

Who knows........ I am going nuts....

Just an update. Got the BFGoodrich G Force Super Sports A/S installed today for $735 tax in. Size 205/50/17. Plus I will get $60 back with a mail-in rebate. So total cost is $675.

Place I bought them from says customers are very happy with them and the tires offer good value. All I can say is the 1st 25kms have been great!!!! :D :D

Feel a whole lot better that the OEM Goodyears. They were toast at 18,000 Kms.

Nice work!  That's a great price!

Glad you like them so far.  I've been really happy with mine.  I've put a summer of driving on them and they show no wear (not that you'd expect them to).

Good looking tire, too.  It should complement your car very well.
