Pricewise you can pretty much buy a new Caravan for the price of the Fit...has rear discs too.
I traded a 225 hp car for my small vehicle. I loved the new car from the start and did not miss the loss of power...did not use it anyway. The 225 hp car was bought mistakenly anyway...well it was a dark night and the catalouge had HP in KW. I never try the vehicles out anyway...just sit in them. I had to take the one that I did, the other one was Purple. When I got home I said to my son...140 HP is plenty for a car oh and the shifter does something else. He said Dad that's 140 KW. and made a quick calc and told me what the HP was. Mostly I think that your desire for a model comes from seeing them about and liking what you see. Anyway the new car gave good service for 10 years and I did like it.
Trading for a small low power car is different though. It requires more investigation and trial. You have to want the advantages ...smaller footprint, lower consumption, handy light handling...to appreciate them fully.
Having to buy on cost whilst wanting more is not a good start to a relationship with a small car. My little car has plenty of power for acceleration and highway cruising

Okay, so if I have this right, an owner of the previous generation Fit had a significant change in personal circumstances which necessitated the purchase of a larger vehicle.  That about right?  Doesn't seem particularly controversial to me.  Your initial post sure made it sound like she found the vehicle itself to be lacking - as opposed to a fundamental shift in her vehicular requirements mandating a change.

(1)  Cowboy up.
(2)  Take the depreciation hit (right in the junk!).
(3)  Buy what you really want.
(4)  Never again buy a car based upon its reputation on internet forums.  Long test-drives are the key.

If she's that much of a speed demon, the Fit definitely wasn't for her.  Can't imgaine what made her think it was.  As mentioned above - that car didn't get any less poweful after she bought it.

You will not do it in a day, so a few motels or camp sites will have to be resorted to. Most have a connection now for wireless.

LOLOL.  44 hours driving time through the United States, 53 hours driving time if I stay in Canada.  Definitely need a couple stops.  ;)

Haven't actually planned my route, yet.  I'm definitely passing through Vancouver to see family, and then I thought through the Rockies to Calgary and then cross into North Dakota.  But that adds about five hours vs. crossing into Washington State and driving the whole way through the US...

I think I'll start another thread on this before this one gets completely derailed, though!  :D

James now that you have driven both the Fit and the Toyota Matrix (week long),  go out on a limb and tell me which one you like best!!! (please)

As for the disk brake thing,  I think that disk on a small car (or any car for that matter) require much more maintenace.  My old Integra is always seizing it's rear calipers.

As for the size of the Fit, I think many of us are following victim to new model growth.  Check out the size of a Civic hatch from the 90's.  For more chuckles check the size of the first Accord, 1977.  I ordered one and it never came in so I bought the first Mazda GLC GT (my first new car).  GT?? it had a 1200 cc rear wheel drive drivetrain with less horsepower then my lawn tractor.  I loved that car.  Driving slow cars fast is great.
