Day 1:

2009 Lincoln MKS
I've driven Lincolns before, when the new MKX (luxury crossover based on the Ford Edge) and MKZ (mid-sized luxury based on the Ford Fusion) were launched and I attended a small event where I was able to sample them briefly.  It wasn't really long enough to get acquainted with them, and honestly, there didn't seem to be much to get excited about.  Until recently -- the past two years or so -- Lincoln simply was no longer on the automotive map, but along with Ford they are attempting to make a comeback.  This week I pilot the MKS, Lincoln's new full-sized luxury sedan.  More...

This is the one with the neat starship ads ?    Ad1 with David Bowie song and Ad2 with "starships don't need keys.

Best car Ads ( to my taste ) for a long time.

I'd get a ZR-1...but the interior sucks.

I've seen them on the roads and taken notice of them...which isn't something I do of 3 series beemers.  Not as nice as the CTS in my books...but still a very solid looking car.

I recall a MotorTrendy article that stated the car is true to what it is...a large American car that you can gobble miles of interstate with.

I was impressed with the blend of interior materials of the example at the Toronto Auto Show.

The photo of the interior isn't very flattering. The corporate gauge package of two large dials with two small dials in between doesn't match the price range. Similarly the radio/HVAC stack and gear selector look out of place.
It's certainly nicer looking than the older models, but to my tastes it's not nearly as nice as the competition.

What specific models do you have in mind?

It's likely not as nice as an Audi or maybe BMW, but it's genius compared to the Acura TL.

Ford floormat in a Lincoln?  Really?

Anyway, they should have used a material besides matte black for the center console.  Otherwise, I think the interior is understated and nice.  As Sir Osis said, definitely nicer than the overstyled TL.

I saw two of these last weekend.  Good looks, nice road presence, without being too flashy or blingy.  Still, I think of it as an old man car.  I wish Lincoln would make a CTS-like car four us younger guys.

I really like the styling from the front. Looks Fantastic. I'm just not sure about the rear end. It's sort of Cadillac CTS meets Dawoo Nubria  Smiley

I still prefer the lighter interior to the blackout one.

Ooh, that's very nice.  I think the problem with the darker one is that you've got two different shades of black--one for the center console, one for the rest of the dashboard.  It kind of looks like mismatched plastics to me.  But the tan interior dresses the entire thing up with some extra contrast (not to mention I generally love tan-and-wood).

I really like the layout of the dash - the overall look is clean, classy and contemporary.  Except for the steering wheel, which could have come from several decades ago.

"Value is certainly on the radar as the standard model starts at only $47,799, while my extremely well equipped tester comes in under $57,000, including freight."

Really?  57K for what is a tarted up 2010 Taurus is a bit too much for my taste.  Gonna a be a hard sell at this price.  The Taurus will be the one to buy instead of this.

I don't disagree that a new-gen Taurus seems like a lot better value.  But when considering that high price, remember that a loaded Lexus ES is $51,500, and doesn't offer AWD.  The MKS offers poor value compared to a Taurus; the ES offers poor value when compared to a Camry XLE or an Avalon.  It's a segment-wide problem, not an MKS problem.

I ckecked one out and really wanted to like it.  Two deal breakers for me.

-No folding rear seats
-Centre console is too high,  limits my long legs from moving around when on a long drive.

The MKS is just a poser.  All reputable reviews tell it the way it is.  It's a bloated Taurus in a pretty dress.  This car cannot compete with Acura, BMW or even Cadillac in handling and performance.  You'd be a fool to pay $57k for a pretty Taurus with extra sound insulation and new sheet metal.
Like someone said, the 2010 Taurus will be $20k less, looks better than the MKS and practically the same car.

Looked at one at the Toronto auto show. The trunk might be big but the opening is the smallest opening I've seen. Who cares how big the trunk is if u can't get anything in there.  I've also read that the front head rests are angled much too far forward. Wing, do u find that true? I also don't like how ford puts their indicator stalk way too far up, forcing u to take your hand off the wheel just to make a lane change.

I also find that Ford/Linclon have the worst and cheapest looking  gauges in the industry. Especially if you compare Lincolns' gauges to other luxury car manufacturers.

I've sat in the new TL and I really like it. The cockpit it really driver oriented, the gauges are super legible and in the perfect place, all the controls fall closely to hand and the steering wheel has a great feel and is the perfect size. The TL is designed for the driver, the Lincoln is designed for the back seat passenger.

Make mine an '08 300C AWD. 5.7L Hemi.  I did a year ago. A 5 yr. old design that makes the brand new Lincoln look like a bar of soap (haven't we been here with Ford design before?) The criticism of the Chrysler's interior notwithstanding, it's clean, classy, FUNCTIONAL, and all of the advanced technology is user friendly and works as advertized. The best description off the iconic 300's design is noble. That word won't be used to describe any Lincoln.
